THE SPARKLING, CONSTANTLY DELIGHTFUL AND OCCASIONALLY EFFERVESCENT Miranda Sings outdid herself on Monday night with a variety show of the first degree. Her guests included Broadway’s Jarrod Spector (left, thanks to Stephen Sorokoff), Domenic Nolfi, and John Tartaglia, singer Sam Tsui (direct from “Oprah!”), and jazzer extraordinaire Ann Hampton Callaway! There were several highlights, including an Avenue Q duet with Tartaglia (complete with sock puppets pulled directly from Miranda’s feet) and an on-the-spot improv song about penguins, accordions and Chicken McNuggets sung with Callaway! Click HERE to see some hilarious footage. Ms. Sings will be back on our stage on Sunday, April 25 at 6pm, with new songs, fabulous guests and some snarky critiques for all to enjoy.
Cedric Neal
The following Cast Party was one of the most upbeat, fun crowds we’ve had in a long, long time! Either they were very easy to please, or we had some shockingly brilliant talent. You and I both know it’s the latter…with performances by Cedric Neal (left), Liz Mikel, Ilene Graff, the afore-mentioned Ms. Callaway, William Blake, Jeff Kinman & Adam Wright, Wes Hart (from West Side Story, promoting the Broadway Beauty Pageant!), Aaron Weinstein…on and on and on! The evening ended up with lots of swell singers from Dallas wailing on our stage…they sure grow them talented down there! Sometimes I leave Cast Party completely pooped. On this night, I left on a cloud…completely jazzed by all the fun we get to have week after week! Who is luckier than ME to oversee all this insanity?! Thank goodness for the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra. Tedd Firth, Steve Doyle and Steve Bakunas make it look soooo easy…but a visit to any other club will show you that it’s not. These guys are the absolute top of the musical heap, and I’m so proud to share the stage with them!
Jim and Billy are bringing The Cast Party to LA!
As you read this, I’ll be in Los Angeles with Billy Stritch getting ready for our very first Cast Party – Hollywood-style! The Magic Castle has been kind enough to invite us to do our open-mic thing, so do it, we will! The LA Times gave us an entire page with 4 gorgeous color photos…so we sold out in record time! Stay tuned for photos and stories about our West Coast Adventure!

JIM CARUSO'S CAST PARTY IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE RETURN of successful songwriter & performer VICTORIA SHAW and her celebrated showcase Under The Covers With Victoria Shaw, Monday, April 5, 2010 at 7:00pm, as part of the long-running concert series Broadway at Birdland.

Hosted by SHAW (left), Under The Covers… has become a recurring highlight, featuring a wide variety of top-selling songwriters and musical acts from across the pop, rock and country worlds, and offering intimate acoustic performances of huge hit songs – along with the little-known stories behind them. Already confirmed to join SHAW are award-winning singer/songwriter Gary Burr and platinum-selling recording artist Bryan White.

Platinum recording artist Bryan White (below, left) has charted seventeen singles on the Billboard country charts, of which four reached Number One: "Someone Else's Star" in 1995; "Rebecca Lynn" and "So Much for Pretending," both in 1996; and "Sittin' on Go" in 1997. He was also a duet partner on the album version of Shania Twain's 1998 single "From This Moment On."

Gary Burr is in the Songwriter's Hall of fame having written hit songs for everyone from Conway Twitty to Kelly Clarkson.

Responsible for over 65 million album sales, SHAW is best-known as the writer of “The River,” one of Garth Brooks’s biggest hits, as well as “I Love The Way You Love Me,” recorded by John Michael Montgomery, and “Nobody Wants To Be Lonely,” performed by Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera. She co-produced the debut CD of superstar Grammy-winning country trio Lady Antebellum, Her songs have also been recorded by such major stars as Olivia Newton John, Boyzone, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, Reba McEntire, Tricia Yearwood, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Michael McDonald. The winner of two Emmy Awards, SHAW is also an accomplished singer, releasing four albums (two on Warner Bros. Records and two independently, on her own Taffeta label), and touring extensively throughout the U.S. and across Europe. She also notably opened for Garth Brooks at his historic 1997 Central Park concert.

Jim Caruso is proud to announce Broadway and television personality JULIE HALSTON will appear at Manhattan’s premier club Birdland (315 West 44th Street, NYC) on Sunday, April 11 at 6pm. This concert is part of the award-winning concert series, Broadway at Birdland. Reservations are highly recommended by calling 212-581-3080 or by visiting www.birdlandjazz.com.

Broadway's Julie Halston returns to Birdland in a brand new show, which will combine her usual hysterical observations of life, show biz and the fall of western civilization. This extravaganza will also include guest stars, interviews and audience participation.

Ms. Halston is one of the busiest actress/comediennes working today. She was recently re-teamed with writer/actor Charles Busch off-Broadway in The Divine Sister. She also played Tina Carmello on the CBS sitcom “The Class” to great acclaim several seasons ago. Well-known to theatre audiences, she was last seen on Broadway in Hairspray after receiving rave reviews (as well as receiving Drama Desk and Drama League nominations) for her performance in William Hamilton’s White Chocolate. She received an Outer Critics Circle nomination for her performance in The Roundabout’s production of Twentieth Century. Other Broadway credits include Gypsy, The Women and The Man Who Came to Dinner. Off-Broadway credits include acclaimed performances in The Vagina Monologues, The Butter and Egg Man and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told. She is a founding member of Charles Busch’s legendary theatre company, Theatre-in-Limbo and received a Drama Desk nomination for her performance in Mr. Busch’s play Red Scare on Sunset. She co-starred with Mr. Busch in many of his plays including Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, The Lady in Question and You Should be So Lucky. Miss Halston’s one woman show, Julie Halston’s Lifetime of Comedy which was developed from her wildly successful club act, ran Off-Broadway for six months and received an Outer Critics Circle Nomination for Best Comedy. CBS developed a pilot based on the play. Her film credits include “The Juror,” “Joe Gould’s Secret,” “Addams Family Values,” “Dottie Gets Spanked,” “Celebrity” and “David Searching.” She can be seen in Charles Busch’s latest film “A Very Serious Person” which has been selected for the Tribeca Film Festival. Television viewers may recognize her as Bitsy Von Muffling on “Sex and The City.” In January of this year, Julie co-authored the well-received book of original monologues “Monologues for Show-Offs” published by Heinemann Press.

BILLY STRITCH'S WATERS OF MARCH: THE BRAZILIAN ALBUM: "...Stritch imaginatively captures the magic of the bossa nova rhythm on some terrific cuts, including three by Brazilian music icon Antonio Carlos Jobim. Of these, probably the most memorable is "Someone to Light Up My Life," which most Americans first heard on Sarah Vaughan's legendary Brazilian album. Here Stritch captures the simple sensitivity and all the yearning poignancy the composer had in mind when he first penned it. Sergio Mendez's "So Many Stars" takes you on an indolent, dreamy, and gentle journey...[Stritch's] phrasings and delicate nuances are so insightful that the album becomes a powerful musical statement with many subtle, yet potent, moments." -- John Hoglund, Backstage. The CD and all things Billy Stritch are at www.billystritch.com.
