THE AUSSIES STORMED BIRDLAND ON SUNDAY NIGHT, AND WE COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE THRILLED! Theatre and movie diva Caroline O’Connor (left, with her Chicago director, Walter Bobbie) proved herself a complete corker with a marvelous show that included all her hits from Chicago, Piaf, “De-Lovely,” “Moulin Rouge” and Mack & Mabel. What a voice! What a presence! What a band! And we’re so excited to tell you that we’ve added another show – this coming Monday at 7pm! (See details below.) You just have to see what all the fuss is about with this extravaganza – Caroline O’Connor’s act is a musical theatre-lover’s dream-come-true!
On Monday, we were delighted to showcase the dazzlingly clever lyrics of one Amanda Yesnowitz, as she turned “Birdland” into “Wordland!” The smart-as-a-whip blonde bombshell (left, enjoying Lauren Kennedy, another talented blonde) brought an amazing cast to sing her songs and praises.

Please check out the gorgeous photos that Stephen Sorokoff took of the event on our FLICKR page – are we lucky to have him recording a visual history of these nights, or what?!
William Blake (left) sang his heart out.
I always tell you that ‘the following Cast Party was hilarious,’ don’t I? Well – for some reason, Monday’s Party was even funnier and rowdier than usual. Not only did the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra (Tedd Firth, Steve Doyle & Dustin Jensen) provide exemplary musicianship, but their running commentary and witty barbs proved screamingly funny, if not show-stopping! I’m telling you, this one should have been televised. Of course the guest talent on stage was pretty fantastic, too! The above Ms. O’Connor (with Daniel Edmonds) killed with “I Hate Musicals,” Kierstin Gray (with David Duggan) sang a gorgeous original tune, Sammy Goldstein did some “Namedropping,” and Phoebe Kreutz was soooo funny. William Blake (left) sang his heart out, Jamie de Roy was “50 Going On 60,” Peggy Eason sang the blues, Bradley Gale showed off his tenor talents, and Tuey Connell made his debut (and hopefully not his last) Cast Party appearance! There were great moments from Nicole Henry, Shannon Amiry, Didie Caria, Edward Lovett, David Rasche, Gena Viev, Alex Hoff, Shoshana Seid-Green, Abby, Ben Cassara, Ray Jessell, Christine Lavin (and her big book!), Jenna Esposito, Maureen Taylor, Carol Shedlin, Lodi Carr, Arden Kelly, Steve Sorokoff, Sarah Rice, Hilary Kole, David Goldman, Sara DeLeo and Phil Amarante. The whole night came to a conclusion with a killer tune by Sean Harkness, his genius jazz guitar, and the band, which folks are still buzzing about. Needless to say…a good time was had by all!
Just thought you’d like to see that we’ve really made the big-time in a suburb of London. It seems that a bar owner thought the Squigs caracature of Billy Stritch, Steve Doyle and I would be the perfect artwork to publicize his club’s weekly open-mic. And what better place to advertise than in the loo? Many, many thanks to our old pal Mark Aaron James for the photo, who almost fainted when he…looked up.

BILLY STRITCH'S WATERS OF MARCH: THE BRAZILIAN ALBUM: "...Stritch imaginatively captures the magic of the bossa nova rhythm on some terrific cuts, including three by Brazilian music icon Antonio Carlos Jobim. Of these, probably the most memorable is "Someone to Light Up My Life," which most Americans first heard on Sarah Vaughan's legendary Brazilian album. Here Stritch captures the simple sensitivity and all the yearning poignancy the composer had in mind when he first penned it. Sergio Mendez's "So Many Stars" takes you on an indolent, dreamy, and gentle journey...[Stritch's] phrasings and delicate nuances are so insightful that the album becomes a powerful musical statement with many subtle, yet potent, moments." -- John Hoglund, Backstage.
