CHRISTINE EBERSOLE SLAYS ME. In the past, she's brought some of the best nights of music in the history of the Broadway at Birdland series, along with musical cohort, Billy Stritch. The shows have been rich in jazzy standards, Broadway favorites and lots of Ebersole/Stritch close harmonies that their fans can't get enough of. This time, she served us something completely different, with “Garage Band Fantasy.”
This time, she served us something completely different, with “Garage Band Fantasy.” Armed with a superstar band headed by Bette Sussman, she chose some of her favorite pop and rock tunes from the 70's and 80's - and it was extraordinary to hear just how versatile her voice is. And to think she's doing an 8-show week on Broadway in Blithe Spirit - Chris has energy to spare and an intense love for her material and making us all sooooo happy! Her songs came from her heart and her toes - and trust me when I say that we're checking the schedule for a re-booking! If you missed it, you'll want to order tickets early for the comeback! (The beautiful photo at left was taken by Ryan Paternite, who also happens to schedule all the Tuesday through Sunday bookings at Birdland!) You can also click on Photo Coverage at BroadwayWorld.com to see more photos, of course!

Where else could you see Broadway leading man Cheyenne Jackson duetting with supah-star Ricki Lake?
Since there was much Monday musical magic in the air, it wasn't surprising that the following Cast Party was filled to the brim with talent. I mean really filled. Where else could you see Broadway leading man Cheyenne Jackson duetting with supah-star Ricki Lake? (I know! Photo left by Linda Lenzi) They performed separately and together, thanks to piano man/composer Lance Horne, whom we love. Ann Hampton Callaway showed off her amazing Sarah Vaughan impression, then killed with a swingin' standard. Another Broadway superstar, Brent Barrett, who just got back from Vegas being the Phantom in…um…Phantom, shared his glorious voice with us, with help from Chris Denney at the piano. Composer Amanda Green gave us a taste of a brand new beautiful song - from the piano - which we didn't even know she played! We were happy to welcome back funny guy Ray Jessell, who's been gone too long! Cabaret diva Andrea Marcovicci sang a John Bucchino tune accompanied by the composer! Some hottie Wicked chicks Carman Cusack and Annaleigh Ashford (pictured at left) watched, cavorted and sang for us! And three talented singers from Oz, Lincoln Hall, Brendan Irving and Laura Herd all dazzled us with their vocal prowess! Of course, there were many other newcomers and some beloved regulars - all accompanied by the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra (Tedd Firth, Steve Doyle & Steve Bakunas), all of whom are beloved themselves! Check out all the fun photos that Stephen Sorokoff took on our FLICKR site!

BILLY STRITCH'S WATERS OF MARCH: THE BRAZILIAN ALBUM: "...Stritch imaginatively captures the magic of the bossa nova rhythm on some terrific cuts, including three by Brazilian music icon Antonio Carlos Jobim. Of these, probably the most memorable is "Someone to Light Up My Life," which most Americans first heard on Sarah Vaughan's legendary Brazilian album. Here Stritch captures the simple sensitivity and all the yearning poignancy the composer had in mind when he first penned it. Sergio Mendez's "So Many Stars" takes you on an indolent, dreamy, and gentle journey...[Stritch's] phrasings and delicate nuances are so insightful that the album becomes a powerful musical statement with many subtle, yet potent, moments." -- John Hoglund, Backstage.
