“SHEER JOY!” THAT'S WHAT LINDA LAVIN BRINGS TO THE BROADWAY AT BIRDLAND STAGE.
“SHEER JOY!” THAT'S WHAT LINDA LAVIN BRINGS TO THE BROADWAY AT BIRDLAND STAGE. Time after time, she dazzles and delights packed houses with her songs, conversation and an overall party atmosphere that we absolutely love. Backed by an extraordinary trio that included Billy Stritch, Steve Doyle and Steve Bakunas, Lavin and Company entertained the Smart Set from the Broadway community, including Joel Grey, Tyne Daly, Nora Ephron, Mike Doyle, Matt McGrath, Amanda Green, Edward Hibbert, Paul Rudnick, and David Zippel, among others. Check out the other great photos that Steve Sorokoff took of the evening on our FLICKR site! And watch for Linda's next Birdland appearance!
The following Cast Party was a swell one - and with talent like the amazing Zoe Lewis.
The following Cast Party was a swell one - and with talent like the amazing Zoe Lewis (left), Andrew Suvalsky, Travis Moser, Matt Mager and the brother/sister musicians Bronwyn and Trevor Exter, how could it not be? Glam songbird Hilary Kole showed up after her gig at Dizzy's and duetted with our new fave violinist Aaron Weinstein, leaving everyone breathless. 17 year-old Charlie Puth took control of the Bosendorfer and jazzed everyone to their toes. There were lots of regulars and quite a few newcomers jamming the room - just the way we like it! David Budway, Steve Doyle and Steve Bakunas comprised the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra and accompanied everyone in the best possible way - proving why this is the most extreme open mic on the face of the planet!

You might want to check out the entertainment section of this Sunday's New York Daily News. I hear there might be mention of our Monday night soiree! Get it while it's hot!

BILLY STRITCH'S WATERS OF MARCH: THE BRAZILIAN ALBUM: "...Stritch imaginatively captures the magic of the bossa nova rhythm on some terrific cuts, including three by Brazilian music icon Antonio Carlos Jobim. Of these, probably the most memorable is "Someone to Light Up My Life," which most Americans first heard on Sarah Vaughan's legendary Brazilian album. Here Stritch captures the simple sensitivity and all the yearning poignancy the composer had in mind when he first penned it. Sergio Mendez's "So Many Stars" takes you on an indolent, dreamy, and gentle journey...[Stritch's] phrasings and delicate nuances are so insightful that the album becomes a powerful musical statement with many subtle, yet potent, moments." -- John Hoglund, Backstage.
