The following Cast Party was guest-hosted by funny girl and belter extraordinaire, Klea Blackhurst (left). Once again, she guided the hilarity, with some musical help from the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra, Tedd Firth and Steve Doyle. Lots of regulars showed up to strut their stuff, like Tom Leopold, Joan Crowe and Ben Rausch. Please join us this coming Monday, when David Budway, Steve Doyle and I will be on piano, bass and mic! You just never know who will be surprising us with a guest appearance, do you?

The following Cast Party was dull, forgettable and nobody came. Not really. I just always thought it'd be funny to type that. Since it's my birthday, I gave myself permission to do it. Truthfully, it was fabulous as always. Our pal Jake Wilson (left) and Ana Nogueira sang two songs from their crazily-popular web tv show, The Batterys Down.com. Check it out. You won't believe it's not on ABC or something. So clever…so professional…and they are soooo talented! Adriana McPhee made her Cast Party debut and sang her face off. Tom Leopold was slyly brilliant with another original tune. Domenick Farinacci showed off his trumpet-playing genius with a tune from his new CD, “Lovers, Tales and Dances.” Broadway diva Karen Murphy blew us away with her voice, talent and charm. There were lots of regulars like Jenna Esposito, Ryan Kelly, Hilary Kole, Carrie Jackson, Christine Lavin, Rob Langeder, Joan Crowe, Fred Barton, William Blake…even David Sattler, who we haven't seen since early Cast Party days at the King Kong Room! Tedd Firth and Steve Doyle were the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra, of course, and we were thrilled to have Steve Bakunas on drums once again. It was a swingin' night!
I took the night off to host the Broadway Backwards 4 fundraiser for the LGBT Community Center at the American Airlines Theatre. I can't tell you how much fun we all had, and raised about $165,000 in the process! The show boasted a cast that included the talents of Whoopi Goldberg, Florence Henderson, Alan Cumming, Gina Gershon, and some of the most brilliant performers on the Broadway scene today. Needless to say, I was happy to meet Becki Newton and Michael Urie (left) from “Ugly Betty.” They both sang great and were so, so funny. Congrats to Bob Bartley and Danny Whitman for putting together a spectacular evening.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is proud to welcome singer/songwriter KATIE THOMPSON to the Broadway at Birdland series on Monday, February 16 at 7pm.

Katie Thompson will be making her Birdland debut, and will be joined by some of today's brightest Broadway stars singing her songs and praises, including Shoshana Bean, Lisa Brescia, Carly Jibson, Carrie Maonlakos, Ann Harada, Molly Pop, Natalie Weiss, Julie Reiber and Kate Shindle. Katie recently returned from the Los Angeles's sold-out run of her first musical R.R.R.E.D., which was Pick of the Week in Backstage Magazine, LA Weekly, Stage Scene LA, and Burbank Leader. Thompson and a bevy of Broadway stars will perform songs from the debut CD “What I've Done Right,” as well as songs from “KT: Live” and “R.R.R.E.D.” Backstage West said Thompson has "knockout vocal calisthenics, and segues from Merman to Buckley to Tori Amos with beautifully constructed songs.” The Glendale News called Thompson “gloriously beautiful and indisputably talented.”

As an actress/singer she has been featured on Michael Mclean's “The Forgotten Carols,” “The Ark,” and Scott Alan's “Dreaming Wide Awake.” Katie has performed in NYC in “Broadway's Acoustic Soul,” “Broadway Loves Country,” and “Broadway Idol” -where she made the Top 3. Katie has been involved in the workshop of several new musicals including: Anything at the Tisch, Scott Alan's Piece, Duncan Sheik's The Lighthouse Project, and Giant, a new musical by Michael John LaCiusia and Sybille Pearson.

BILLY STRITCH'S WATERS OF MARCH: THE BRAZILIAN ALBUM: "...Stritch imaginatively captures the magic of the bossa nova rhythm on some terrific cuts, including three by Brazilian music icon Antonio Carlos Jobim. Of these, probably the most memorable is "Someone to Light Up My Life," which most Americans first heard on Sarah Vaughan's legendary Brazilian album. Here Stritch captures the simple sensitivity and all the yearning poignancy the composer had in mind when he first penned it. Sergio Mendez's "So Many Stars" takes you on an indolent, dreamy, and gentle journey...[Stritch's] phrasings and delicate nuances are so insightful that the album becomes a powerful musical statement with many subtle, yet potent, moments." -- John Hoglund, Backstage.
