Patrick DeGennaro kicked all kinds of super-pop tuchas in his Monday night concert at Birdland! His concert of highly original songs (with a few standards thrown in for good measure) had the place hopping and popping, thanks to a marvelous band, his gorgeous voice, superb backup from Ula Hedwig and Lisa Burns and special guest Annie Golden!

Ex-pageant girl and current hottie singer Ryan Kelly blew everyone away with her swinging and singing.
The following Cast Party was about as diverse as it gets, with a poetess, a cellist, a tapping trombonist, some folk singers, a few jazzers and a Broadway star or two!  Peter Sachon, everyone's favorite cello player, showed off a splendid new piece written for him especially by Michael John LaChiusa - and stunned the crowded room with his technique.  Ex-pageant girl and current hottie singer Ryan Kelly (left) blew everyone away with her swinging and singing.  Todd Londagin made a triumphant return to our stage with his horn - and thrilled everyone with his tapping dexterity.  South Pacific's Zachary James sang, and we celebrated his great casting news…he's going to be Lurch in upcoming Andrew Lippa Broadway production of The Addams Family, also starring Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth!  If you missed it, be sure to check out the photos on Flickr! We do it all again this coming Monday - and we hope to see your face there!

Jim Caruso's Cast Party and Theatermania.com are proud to present: Broadway at Birdland
Jim Caruso's Cast Party is proud to announce a performance by acclaimed singer-songwriter and musical theater composer JEREMY SCHONFELD. The 7pm concert on Monday, January 26, 2009 is part of the long-running, critically-heralded concert series Broadway at Birdland.

Featuring an eclectic mix of brand new material from upcoming projects, the concert will also include familiar favorites from Drift, “37 Notebooks,” and “Blue Skies & All,” stripped down and reimagined for a trio of New York's top musicians, including Schonfeld (piano), John Clancy (percussion and djembo) and Randy Landau (upright and electric bass).  Broadway performers Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell will be special guest vocalists.

Hailed by The New York Times as a blend of Jonathan Larson and Billy Joel, Schonfeld's singular blend of tuneful pop, hard-edged rock, gospel, soul and blues has made him one of today's most sought after singer/songwriter talents and musical theater composers.  Upcoming theatrical projects include:  a soon to be announced Broadway-bound musical; a brand new contemporary musical take on a favorite Grimm's Fairy Tale; and the development of a new musical with director and producer Daisy Prince (Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years, John Bucchino's Ovation Award winning new musical It's Only Life).  Other recent projects include:  the album “37 Notebooks,” which featured the vocal talents of Shoshana Bean, Tracie Thoms, Amy Spanger, Lauren Kennedy, Luther Creek, and Kate Shindle, among others; the feature film “Clear Blue Tuesday”; as well as the musicals “Home” and innumerable “atrainplays”; and the Broadway Dreams Foundation's “Broadway Bootcamp,” for which Schonfeld serves as musical director.

BILLY STRITCH'S WATERS OF MARCH: THE BRAZILIAN ALBUM: "...Stritch imaginatively captures the magic of the bossa nova rhythm on some terrific cuts, including three by Brazilian music icon Antonio Carlos Jobim. Of these, probably the most memorable is "Someone to Light Up My Life," which most Americans first heard on Sarah Vaughan's legendary Brazilian album. Here Stritch captures the simple sensitivity and all the yearning poignancy the composer had in mind when he first penned it. Sergio Mendez's "So Many Stars" takes you on an indolent, dreamy, and gentle journey...[Stritch's] phrasings and delicate nuances are so insightful that the album becomes a powerful musical statement with many subtle, yet potent, moments." -- John Hoglund, Backstage.
