Michele Lee IS showbusiness.
Michele Lee IS showbusiness.  She's gorgeous (left, photo by Ryan Paternite), funny, sings great, and is so stage-savvy that every musical theater-lovin' student in town should be at her feet with a notepad.  Her Monday night show was packed with Michele-fans and supporters of The Actors Fund, which was the recipient of the evening's draw.  We spied divas Sandra Bernhard and Natalie Douglas, divos Steven Brinberg and Tim Pinckney, genius lyricist David Zippel, legendary restauranteur Elaine Kaufman, Michele's former Mame castmate Ward Billeisen, and super-publicist Bobby Zarem helping make up the packed house.  One super fan, Suzanne Walters, flew all the way from London just to see the show!  Michele and Ron Abel brought us a fast-paced and dazzling evening, and we are counting down the days until they join us again!
The awesome artist/performer Justin “Squigs” Robertson
The following Cast Party was equally packed and enjoyable, what with visits from my old pal Jim J. Bullock, David Pevsner, Justin Keyes, Christine Lavin, Harmony Keeney, Jenna Esposito, and an onstage musical moment with Lea DeLaria, Todd Londagin, Angela Bingham, Tedd Firth and Steve Doyle that was one of the swingin'-est in recent memory!  The awesome artist/performer Justin “Squigs” Robertson (left) was on hand, sketching the entire extravaganza.  We can't wait to see the results of his labors!  (Check out his sponsor ad below!)  And check out all the fun photos of the evening on the FLICKR site!!

We want to add a very special welcome to our trajillion new subscibers from the TheaterMania Third Avenue Street Fair!  We hope you'll make Cast Party and the Broadway at Birdland series your new home-away-from-home!
- Jim!
Jim Caruso's Cast Party and Theatermania.com are proud to present: Broadway at Birdland
Jim Caruso's Cast Party and TheaterMania.com will present Alex Gemignani on Monday, September 29th, at 7:00PM.
Of course, the shockingly brilliant Betty Buckley is continuing her week of “The Music @ Birdland” through Saturday night, with shows at 8:30 and 11pm.  Go see her.  We're thrilled that she's made Birdland her musical home!

Jim Caruso's Cast Party and TheaterMania.com will present Alex Gemignani on Monday, September 29th, at 7:00PM.  Alex's appearance is part of the Nightlife Award-winning concert series Broadway at Birdland.  The Broadway veteran will be featured in an evening entitled, “Getting Gone,” in which cabaretgoers will be treated to Alex's unique interpretation of tunes penned by Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Billy Joel, Sara Bareilles, Ben Folds, and Todd Alsup.  He will be accompanied by Tedd Firth on piano, Matt Aronoff on bass, Larry Lelli on drums, and Tony Romano on guitar.

Alex appeared as John Hinckley in the Roundabout's 2004 Broadway mounting of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins, returning to Broadway late the following year as the Beadle in a revival of Sweeney Todd.  His stage work also includes concert versions of South Pacific (Reba McEntire and Brian Stokes Mitchell)at Carnegie Hall, and Passion (Patti LuPone, Michael Cerveris, and Audra McDonald) at the Rose Theater.  Both productions have been taped for PBS's “Great Performances” series.  Gemignani participated in a critically-recognized performance of “Opening Doors” from Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along at Symphony Space as part of its Wall to Wall Sondheim to commemorate the composer's 75th birthday.  His most recent appearances include revivals of Sunday In The Park With George, as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, and in the national tour of John Doyle's acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd.

BILLY STRITCH AND CHRISTINE EBERSOLE, "SUNDAY IN NEW YORK": selections culled from the pair's recent live show in NYC. In a review, Stephen Holden of the New York Times commented: "Ms. Ebersole, a bright, zany soprano and ebullient clown, can whirl on a dime and evoke an inexpressable sorrow under a facade of garrulous pluck. When she adds a spinning vibrato to her lemony voice, she can turn into a playful latter-day Kathryn Grayson or Jeanette MacDonald. Mr. Stritch, a pop-jazz pianist and gifted arranger, is a solid exponent of the gregarious, swinging Vegas style epitomized by Steve Lawrence." SQUIGS DRAWS THE STARS. Justin 'Squigs' Robertson is well known in the Los Angeles theatre community for capturing show biz folks in pen and ink, and his acclaim is quickly spreading across the country. He loves sushi. His favorite song is 'It's Only A Paper Moon'. And he genuflects upon merely hearing the name of Al Hirschfeld. His whimsical illustration and design is aided and abetted by his parallel career as an actor and entertainer. You can visit for a look at Squigs' take on such talented friends of Cast Party as Jeff Blumenkrantz, Julia Murney, Christine Ebersole, Victoria Clark, Kelli O'Hara, Bob Martin and Liza Minnelli. www.squigsink.com
