The Todd Londagin Five provided Birdland with some of the hippest, coolest swing on the planet Monday night!
The Todd Londagin Five provided Birdland with some of the hippest, coolest swing on the planet Monday night!  That's right, our favorite singer/tapper/trombone man (left) wowed everyone with his many talents, and some of the best musicians around.  Many thanks to Todd and his posse for all the fun and spectacular music!

Yes, that's Celeste Holm with husband Frank Basile and Michael Feinstein
Happily, loads of folks stuck around for the following Cast Party, making it yet another night to remember.  The place was jam-packed with talented types, music moguls, thrilled tourists and an Oscar-winner! (Yes, that's Celeste Holm with husband Frank Basile and Michael Feinstein, left).  Leeann Westover (from the fabulous Lascivious Biddies) sang her signature song, “I Wanna Be Famous,” Vanessa Trouble made a long-awaited return to our stage, Wade Dooley made an impressive debut, and the afore-mentioned Mr. Basile showed off his gorgeous baritone! Nate Birkey came in to celebrate his absolutely brilliant new CD, “Almost Home,” which I haven't taken off my CD player for one second. (It's how I want my life to sound.) There were many beloved regulars, and quite a few newcomers, and you can see almost everyone if you click on Flickr, with many thanks to Steve Sorokoff and his trusty camera! By the way, this coming Monday, Mr. Billy Stritch will be at the helm of the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra, with Mr. Steve Doyle performing as Master of the Bass.
One of our all-time fave diva-licious gals, Natalie Douglas, came in to give us a taste of her upcoming Birdland show, “Café Society.” Happily, the seven-time (hello?) MAC Award-winning singer is coming back for four shows on Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17, with shows at 9pm and 11:30pm. “
“CAFÉ SOCIETY” is a tribute to the songs, the people, the spirit and the style that were all a part of the legendary Greenwich Village nightspot of the 30's and 40's, Café Society.  Natalie will be joined by her longtime Musical Director, Avenue Q conductor Mark Hartman, and her band of Broadway All-Stars (from the pits of current shows), as they bring Duke Ellington's “Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me,” “Strange Fruit” (which Billie Holiday first sang at Café Society), the gorgeous classic, “A Nightingale Sang In Berkley Square,” Cole Porter's “Miss Otis Regrets” and other gems from that amazing era of music.  Check out Natalie's MySpace page to get a taste of what this brilliant show is all about.  I can't wait!  You can make rezzies by calling the club at 212-581-3080 or going to www.BirdlandJazz.com.

We're thrilled and delighted to tell you that LUCIE ARNAZ is coming back to Birdland this coming week! That's right, "Lulu's Back In Town" at 7pm on July 16th/17th and at 8:30 and 11pm on July 18th/19th!
We're thrilled and delighted to tell you that LUCIE ARNAZ is coming back to Birdland this coming week!  That's right, "Lulu's Back In Town" at 7pm on July 16th/17th and at 8:30 and 11pm on July 18th/19th!  LUCIE, along with her musical director/arranger of 20 years, RON ABEL, make their magnificent return to Broadway at Birdland with very special guests: ARNAZ’s daughter KATHARINE LUCKINBILL and son JOE LUCKINBILL.

For four decades showbiz royalty LUCIE ARNAZ has captivated audiences with her triumphant performances on both stage and in film.  LUCIE got her equity card playing many of the best women's roles in the theatre including Sally Bowles in Cabaret, Daisy Mae in L'il Abner (her first time opposite Dirk Benedict), Princess Winifred, opposite Kaye Medford, Rudy Vallee, Christine Andreas and Don Amendolia in Once Upon a Mattress, Goodbye Charlie, A Place to Stay, opposite John Ritter.   She recently starred in WItches of Eastwick in London and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels on Broadway.  LUCIE spent a summer at The Jones Beach Theatre in New York, playing Annie Oakley in Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun, with Harve Presnell.  During that summer, Broadway beckoned and she auditioned for and snagged the coveted role of the unforgettably wacky, Sonia Wolsk, in the Neil Simon/Marvin Hamlisch/Carole Bayer Sager musical They’re Playing Our Song, directed by Robert Moore for which she received The Los Angeles Drama Critic’s Circle, Theatre World and Outer Critic's Circle Awards.

On the big screen, LUCIE has starred opposite Neil Diamond and Sir Laurence Olivier in The Jazz Singer (for which she received a Golden Globe nomination), opposite Tom Laughlin in Billy Jack Goes to Washington, alongside Ken Howard in Second Thoughts, and opposite Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Henry Winkler in Down to You, a Miramax film.  Most recently LUCIE costarred with Richard Roundtree, Robert Loggia and Bob Forster in Wild Seven and in a controversial new film about second hand smoke from write r/director Alyssa Bennett entitled, The Pack that debuted at Sundance this fall.

Justin 'Squigs' Robertson is well known in the Los Angeles theatre community for capturing show biz folks in pen and ink, and his acclaim is quickly spreading across the country. He loves sushi.
