Broadway at Birdland is Booming!  This past week, we presented composer Jason Robert Brown on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday with two shows a night.  Between Jason's brilliant, Tony Award-winning material and special guests like Lauren Kennedy, Jenn Colella and Laura Benanti, the run was a sell-out!  On Monday, his fabulous wife and composer extraordinaire Georgia Stitt took the stage with her own extravaganza.which also sold out!  What a cast she assembled to sing her songs: Kelli O'Hara, Cheyenne Jackson, Will Chase, Matthew Morrison, Andrea Burns, Jenn Colella, Lauren Kennedy, and Tituss Burgess!  As a very special treat, 11 contestants from the NBC hit, “Grease: You're The One That I Want” surprised the crowd by performing Georgia's finale.  If you look to the left, you'll see Greasers Derek Keeling, Kevin Green and Austin Miller surrounding Georgia, as well as Jenn Colella, Kelli O'Hara and Lauren Kennedy proving that blondes have more fun.  Check out all the pix on Flickr!

The following Cast Party was, once again, wonderful.  Newcomers like Adam Mastrelli and Laura D'Andre thrilled the crowd with their showbiz savvy, and there were lots of beloved regulars showing off their musical stuff.  Tedd Firth and Steve Doyle made up the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra, which they will do again this coming Monday!  We want to see YOU there!
- Jim!

This Monday, April 16 marks the return of one of my all-time favorite events!  Under The Covers With Victoria Shaw will take over the Birdland stage at 7pm.  Victoria (left) is the hostess-with-the-mostess for the musical round-table, which always co-stars a wide range of million-selling songwriters from the pop, country and rock worlds.  The audience is privy to acoustic performances by the composers of the mega-hits, and the stories behind them.  Joining Victoria onstage will be singer/songwriters Gary Burr (“Love's Been A Little Bit Hard On Me,” “To Be Loved By You”), Hilary Scott, and Richie McDonald (left) of the country super-group Lonestar.  Victoria Shaw is a pop/country songwriter responsible for over 65 million cd sales!  As a singer, she had the great opportunity to open for Garth Brooks in the historic 1997 Central Park concert.  Victoria also wrote one of Garth's biggest hits of all-time, "The River."  The two-time Emmy Award-winning composer also wrote "I Love The Way You Love Me" for John Michael Montgomery and "Nobody Wants To Be Lonely" for Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera.  Her songs have been recorded by Olivia Newton John, Boyzone, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, Reba McEntyre, Tricia Yearwood, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Michael McDonald.

There will be a $25 cover and $10 food/drink minimum.  Call Birdland now for reservations - 212-581-3080 - or click on www.InstantSeats.com/Birdland.

This week - Though lyricist Amanda Green's most recent production, High Fidelity, was short-lived on Broadway, she came to “here! on Broadway” to pass on her excitement about its continued life through the Original Cast Recording being released on the Sh-K-Boom label.  She also shares stories from her childhood; growing up the daughter of showbiz legends Phyllis Newman and Adolph Green.  Some of the featured songs in this episode include tracks from Amanda's album, "Put a Little Love in Your Mouth! The Songs of Amanda Green" as well as High Fidelity.

“here! on Broadway” is hosted by Jim Caruso.  Upcoming episodes will feature Curtains star Karen Ziemba, playwright/performer Charles Busch, Drowsy Chaperone co-writer Lisa Lambert, and Broadway's Phantom Howard McGillin.
