Bob Martin, Lisa Lambert and Don McKellar
Fun at Jim Caruso's Cast Party, Birdland, New York City

March 9, 2007

Big…as in large…as in huge.  Monday's Cast Party seemed to break all records at Birdland! Folks braved the winter weather and took refuse in 'a little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down their pants.'  (Many thanks to the late Chuckles the Clown for that pithy quote.)

It was so fun to celebrate The Drowsy Chaperone's new LP.  The Tony Award-winning creators Bob Martin, Lisa Lambert and Don McKellar (left, by Mark Rupp) were all on hand to give an autographed copy to an excited, and knowledgeable, fan.  Some Drowsy cast members, including our own Garth Kravits, stayed and sang and partied like it was 1924.

Lots of beloved CP regulars and some swell newcomers joined in on the musical fun, including some dewy fresh musical comedy students of the fabulous Daisy Prince and Tom Kitt (below left).  We were also delighted to meet Richard Pryor, Jr., who wowed us with his jazz chops.  Christine Lavin impressed everyone with a dazzling display of her ticket stubs from the afore-mentioned Drowsy Chaperone, which she has now seen 34 times…but who's counting?

Michael Feinstein told us about his Carnegie Hall concert (tonight!), Tony DeSare gave us a preview of his Algonquin show, Christine Pedi came in after her Talk Radio rehearsal, Ray Jessell returned from LA, and Phoebe Kreutz asked the musical question, “I Want To Be A Viking.”  Oh…and Bob Dolphin tap-danced.  Billy Stritch finally received his long-lost Nightlife Award from Scott Siegel, and took many, many well-deserved bows.  I suffered through sinus issues, Steve Doyle patiently boinged away on the bass, and all was right with the Cast Party world.  (Click on FLICKR to see proof that it all really happened.)  I'm delighted to tell you that we'll do it all again next Monday, so be there or be square.  - Jim!
