.

February 9 , 2007

Monday night's "Leading Men 2" concert was such a success, and so totally packed, that we were dragging in chairs from the dressing room for last-minute guests!  The benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS was announced months ago, and the Birdland phone rang off the hook until it was a sell-out within the week.  No small wonder, with a cast that included Matt Cavenaugh, John Tartaglia, Daniel Reichard (pictured left, thanks to Linda Lenzi from BroadwayWorld.com), Hugh Panaro, Norm Lewis, Adam Jacobs, Telly Leung, David Gurland, Tom Andersen, Perry Ojeda, Jason Snow, Tim Di Pasqua and Ben Strothmann.  The event was beautifully produced by Wayman Wong, perfectly directed by Alan Muraoka and musical directed by the truly hilarious Seth Rudetsky.  Birdland owner Gianni Valente was kind enough to give 100% of the cover charges to BC/EFA, and we couldn't have been prouder to host such a brilliant array of talent!  Click on Backstage to see all the pre-show goings-on and Leading Men II Benefit to see show pix!

A Very Special Birthday Cast Party followed the concert, and I was thrilled to have some of the most talented folks in town serenading me!  There were, of course, lots of beloved regulars, plus The Lascivious Biddies, Lumiri Tubo, Natalie Douglas, and Lari White singing their hearts out.  Todd Londagin sang and tapped for everyone, with Billy Stritch shocking everyone with a superb trombone solo!  Needless to say, we were gobsmacked to see the self-proclaimed 'King of Porn,' Ron Jeremy (left, with a stunned JC) enjoying the festivities.  We were. . . um. . .delighted that the veteran of 1900 adult films had the time to see what we were up to.  Click on Flickr! to see photos of all the fun!  YOU have to come see us next week! We can't promise porn stars, but we can guarantee great music from the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra du Jour (pianist Tedd Firth, bassist Steve Doyle, and drummist Steve Bakunas).  It'll be Billy Stritch's birthday, so he'll be watching from the audience.  So will Cortes Alexander, Clarke Thorell and Johnny Rodgers, who are joining me as the Williams Brothers on the road with Liza Minnelli (see below).  And yeah - we'll give you a preview!

Wait till you hear what Ashley Foot at Radio Allegro did!  He produced an amazing podcast about me and all my projects!  Click on Radio Allegro Presents "Jim Caruso: His Name in Lights" to hear it . . . you won't believe some of the special call-in guests he procured!  Ashley is a wonderful host and a very knowlegable theater-lover.  Subscribe to Radio Allegro to thank him for such a great tribute!!
