Psst - after you've read all of the Cast Party scoop, be sure to spend a moment with our fabulous sponsors!
November 24, 2006
Happy Thanksgiving! We are so thankful for all of you...from the loyal friends and fans to all of the brilliant talent who have made Birdland their musical home. We are working harder than ever to bring you the best entertainment we can find! Speaking of that, last Monday's Jeff Blumenkrantz Songbook was a sold-out, jammed-to-the-rafters hit! His incredible songs were performed by a cast that included Alysha Umphress, Liz Callaway, Victoria Clark, Mary Testa (left with Mr. B), and Michael McElroy. Broadway insiders flocked to the show, including the very tall, very talented Tommy Tune. The following Cast Party had some swells in the crowd, too! Lisa Lambert, who co-wrote the music and lyrics to The Drowsy Chaperone, is becoming a regular, and we're delighted. Michael Feinstein went back to his roots and performed “Isn't It Romantic.” There was folk and rock and jazz and pop and showtune and trombone and tap and guitar and trumpet-impression. Mark Berman and Steve Doyle kept the music humming, and everyone had a ball. Click on our FLICKR site to see more purdy pix!

We have a new sponsor for Cast Party! The artwork you're seeing (left) is by an artist named Squigs. I discovered his work on Jeff Blumenkrantz' website, and sent a fan letter. I was rewarded with this caricature! Billy, Steve and I have never looked better! Check out his website, and you'll learn that Squigs' theatrical style is aided and abetted by his parallel life as a professional actor in LA. If he's half as talented as an actor, I'm dying to see him onstage! Go to the site (Squigs' Ink Illustration & Design), click on “Caricature,” and see what he's done with our pals Julia Murney, Christine Ebersole, Vicki Clark, Kelli O'Hara, and Bob Martin. A million thanks to Squigs for his fantastic gift.

Since Billy, Steve and I will both be performing with our gorgeous friend Hilary Kole in the Turks & Caicos Islands this coming week, there will be NO CAST PARTY on Monday. We are thrilled to announce that in it's place will be three great shows.
At 7pm, Jack Donahue (left) swings into Birdland! Jack, with Randy Ingram at the piano and a bunch of wonderful musicians, will be performing material from his upcoming recording “A Small Blue Thing.” Songs will include "Get Out of Town,” "Black Coffee,” Alec Wilder's "I'll Be Around,” and an Adam Guettel piece for you contemporary theater fans! There will be a $25 cover and $10 food/drink minimum. Call the club for reservations: 212-581-3080.
Then stay tuned, because... |
Following Jack's 7pm show will be the return of Euan Morton (below left) to the Birdland stage! His 9pm show is totally sold out, so we added an 11pm show. You know Euan from his Tony-nominated performance in Taboo on Broadway. He'll be performing songs from his highly-acclaimed debut CD, NewClear, plus some beloved Carpenters tunes! Check out www.officiallyeuanmorton.com for details on Mr. Morton, and call 212.581.3080 for reservations!

SQUIGS DRAWS THE SHOWBIZ! Justin “Squigs” Robertson will draw for food. He’ll draw for fame and fortune too, but first things first. Since 1993, Squigs has captured showbiz folk from the backyard to Broadway, including many ladies and gents who have wowed the crowds at Cast Party. His theatrical style is aided and abetted by his parallel life on the stage – a character man drawing characters. His favorite song is “It’s Only A Paper Moon”; he loves sushi; and he genuflects upon merely hearing the name of Al Hirschfeld. Well-known in the Los Angeles theatre scene where he's based, Squigs is working at kicking up the art a notch (or 7). Come see what's happening at the website: www.squigsink.com. Stop by anytime, and drop a line to say “hello.”

| "The
Party simply glows with New York nightlife ambiance. It feels like a
throwback to another era but it has this era's top-notch entertainers
dropping in to schmooze, sing, eat, and drink. Caruso consistently provides a flow of exciting singers, and he's definitely
hip, cool and classy all by himself."
