Last week...

Mark Rapp, BJ Crosby, Joe Hadden, and Mark's didgeridoo

November 18, 2005

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a country music fan, even though I'm an Italian Presbyterian from Pennsylvania with heavy WASP overtones. That's why I was so thrilled that Monday's Under The Covers With Victoria Shaw was completely sold out with dudes and dudresses celebrating Country Music Week in Manhattan. Vic brought along co-writers Gary Burr and Bob DiPiero, and between them all they have 30 Top Ten tunes! The music was sublime, thanks to those three folks and their musical guests, including Hilary Scott. This Nashville baby is the next big thing, and we're thrilled that she made her New York debut at Birdland. The following Cast Party was shockingly diverse, with performances by Broadway diva BJ Crosby (above, holding Mark Rapp's scary didgeridoo with Joe Hadden), cabaret superstar Michael Feinstein, Aussie glamorpuss Anita Plateris, pianist/composer Fred Barton, Sebastian LaCause and the cast of Love! Valour! Compassion!, and so many more! If you weren't there, you can make up for it by coming this Monday at around 9:30 for all the fun! Billy Stritch and Steve Doyle will compose the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra!

Coming up...

Hilary KoleI'm sorry to tell you (actually I'm thrilled to tell you) that if you were planning on coming to this Tuesday's Penny Fuller concert, or next Monday's (November 28) Charles Busch & Julie Halston extravaganza, they are both SOLD OUT! Be sure to read this perky newsletter, where I will regale you with the entire star-studded dish. Monday's Cast Party will be celebrating a brand new showbizzy book called The American Songbook: The Singers, The Songwriters & The Songs, by Ken Bloom. It's a marvelous coffee-table tome that's an essential for any fan of our music; from Sousa marches up to the rock 'n roll era! The author will be joining us, there will be giveaways, and you can be in on the Cast Party special price -- it's gonna make an amazing Christmas gift!

Let me tell you about Hilary Kole (above). You might know her from her cooler-than-cool appearances at Cast Party, or you might be a fan of hers from Our Sinatra and Singing Astaire. Either way, you know that this gorgeous goddess is one of the very best singers ever. She is performing all weekend (11/17, 18 and 19) at Birdland in Make Me Rainbows: A Celebration of the Songs of Alan and Marilyn Bergman. There are plenty of opportunities to see and hear her, with shows at 9 and 11pm each night. Not only will you hear some of the best songs sung by one of the best singers, but her band is composed of Alan Broadbent on piano, Jay Leonhart on bass and Mark McLean on drums. This is sure to be one of the more sublime musical evenings this year so call the club at 212.581.3080 and get a reservation now!

And on BroadwayWorld.com...

Kevin Cahoon, Ghetto Cowboy DollYay! A new episode! This week I chat with singer/songwriter/actor Kevin Cahoon (right) about his new CD, Ghetto Cowboy Doll. Kevin is currently creeping out children and adults as The Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on Broadway. The CD is a crazy combination of gritty glitter punk/pop and a hint of Ann Murray. Listen to the show and you'll understand! I'll also play a few cuts from recent Cast Parties, so you can hear the insane mixture of brilliant talent that's representin' every Monday night!

Tune in every Tuesday and Friday night at 8pm exclusively on BroadwayWorld.com! We're a podcast, now, too! Go to The Radio Show for all the info!

In the words of Liza Minnelli, "Cast Party IS New York!"

Cast Party Radio Show is produced by Brian Wilson at SoHa Media.

Look at all the fabulous people!
"The Party simply glows with New York nightlife ambiance. It feels like a throwback to another era but it has this era's top-notch entertainers dropping in to schmooze, sing, eat, and drink.
