Jamie DeRoy's “Strings Attached” benefit for the New York City Police Foundation was a smash and filled Birdland with lots of talented friends and fans. It was a superb lead-in to a jammed Cast Party, which boasted some of the hottest talent in NYC, including Amanda McBroom (right), Mary Cleere Haran, Michael Feinstein, Joel Silberman, Mark Aaron James, Kevin Ray, Margaret Dorn, Randi Driscoll, Noah Heldman, and the cast of The Ballad of Bonnie & Clyde, a NYMF hit running at the Theatre at St. Clements.
I'm
so happy to tell you that the event Kate Shindle and
I co-hosted to raise money for the Red Cross ended up
bringing in over $13,000, thanks to some very generous
friends! Lots of wonderful people showed up, then Linda Lavin
offered to match our take, with Barry Manilow and Rosie
O'Donnell both doubling the total! Many sincere thanks to everyone
for taking part and doing a nice thing.
The
amazing Johnny
Rodgers Band will be back at Birdland this
coming Monday, September 19 at 7pm!
Johnny will be celebrating the release of his new CD, “Box
of Photographs” (right), with Joe Ravo
on guitar, Danny Mallon on drums and Brian Glassman
on bass. Box of Photographs, released by PS Classics
and produced by Richard Barone, features piano-driven
pop tunes, irresistible harmonies, and, above it all, Johnny's powerful
vocals. Last year, the Songwriters Hall of Fame selected
his recording of "Is It the Way?" as the opening
track of their “Best of the New Songwriters Showcase”
CD. Johnny has been the recipient of many performance and songwriting
awards, including the heralded Abe Olman Scholarship
from the Songwriter's Hall of Fame and the Manhattan
Association of Clubs (MAC) Award
for Best Male Debut Performer. Plus, he's had the opportunity
to play for some of the best performers on the planet, including Liza
Minnelli and the dazzling and sometimes tuneful Jim Caruso.
