Psst - after you've read all of the Cast Party scoop, be sure to spend
a moment with our fabulous sponsors!
September
15, 2006
Yee
haw! It was a veritable hootenanny at Birdland on Monday
night! After the sold-out Jason Robert Brown/Alice Ripley/Kate
McGarry concert, Cast Party fans stormed the
place. Dallas diva Wendy Welch brought a slew of pals
from the Lone Star State to help celebrate her birthday in style, and
dozens of them serenaded her, along with Billy Stritch
and Steve Doyle on piano and bass. It was great to
see folks from my old stomping grounds...talented folks like Willie
Welch, Lois Leftwich, Michael Justis,
Liz Reddick, Julie Anne Malone, Peggy
Honea, Kassira, Steve Scarpetti,
Donna Bullock, Micael Tina Turner Cline,
and Connie Coit. That's all of us Texans in the photo
on the left, with many thanks to photographer Mark Rupp!
Lots of other performers got into the act, including folk-star Christine
Lavin, stride piano demon Jon Weber and...my
mother. Check out many more pics of the evening on Flickr!
The following night, Todd Londagin and His Big Band
did us all proud by jamming the club for his Birdland debut! The place
was boppin' and fingers were poppin' along with one of the best bands
in the country! We can't wait for their return!

| You
have to come see The Lascivious
Biddies (left, in a photo by Geoff Smith)
this coming Monday, September 18 at 7pm! This all-female
cocktail pop quartet has been making headlines for having an energetic
and tightly woven live show, full of humor, expert musicianship and
a dash of sentimentality. Blending jazz, pop and cabaret with four part
harmonies, they have carried their fresh, genre-defying sound all the
way from Kennedy Center to a segment on the CBS
Evening News. They've become Cast Party faves, and we know
you'll want to call the club now for reservations! (212.581.3080)
Of course, Cast Party will follow, with Billy Stritch
and Wayne Batchelor making up the Symphony
Orchestra!

The
following night, Tuesday, September 19, we have two
shows that are so special, we can barely contain ourselves! At 8pm,
The Nashville Connection - Broadway Meets Country
(left, in a photo by Randy Lawson) do-si-do's
onto the Birdland stage. Grammy Award winner Marcus
Hummon (“Bless The Broken Road,” “Cowboy
Take Me Away”) joins country star Sherrie Austin,
and a plethora of theatre stars for an amazing night of music. First
presented at the O'Neil Theatre Center, the evening
is directed by Michael Bush. The Nashville Connection
also features Erich Bergen, Cole Burden,
Deven May (Bat Boy: The Musical),
Brian Charles Rooney (Three Penny Opera),
Nancy Slusser, and Louis Tucci (Buddy).
The members of the show are also featured in Marcus Hummon's
new musical Warrior, an upcoming 2006
New York Musical Theatre Festival production. As if that
weren't a big enough Tuesday, we're following with Once
Before We Go with Erich Bergen & Deven May
at 10pm. Having recently been cast in an upcoming national tour, Erich
Bergen and Deven May decided on one last Manhattan hurrah before seeing
the country. Once Before We Go is a one-night
variety show that will feature pop and theater music, plus a glimpse
into Erich and Deven's off-the-wall imaginations. Again, call the
club at 212.581.3080.

| ALTHOUGH
BILL WESTMORELAND MET SALLY MAYES in New York City, they quickly realized
they had common roots.
Sally's best high school friend in Texas was the daughter of Bill's
mother's best friend, who both shared a love of decoupage. (OK, maybe
that's too much information, but Bill and Sally hit it off right away!)
Their first collaboration was Sally's CD The Story Hour,
followed by Boys and Girls Like You and Me.
Bill photographed Sally's latest CD, Valentine,
draping her in red silk organza (pictured here, at right) to
complement her sexy, romantic renditions of all-time favorite standards.
Sally is currently off to South Africa to direct Tovah Feldshuh's
new concert, and is working with musical director Patrick Brady
on a new fall show. You can read more about Sally at
www.sallymayes.net. You can reach Bill at bwphotography@aol.com.

| WHAT
DO MICHAEL C. HALL,
KERRY BUTLER, CHEYENNE JACKSON, ESTELLE PARSONS, JULIA MURNEY, DEVEN
MAY, HUNTER FOSTER, MICHAEL ARDEN, JAMES BLUNT and the GOO GOO DOLLS
all have in common? Their
secret weapon -- voice teacher Liz Caplan! Her student ANA GASTEYER
(upcoming Threepenny Opera) says, “Studying with Liz has changed my
approach to singing on every level. In the two years we have worked
together, she has combined phenomenal technique with tailor-made specifications
to meet a huge variety of professional demands. Her tireless enthusiasm
and expertise have empowered me physiologically and emotionally to become
a better singer than I had ever imagined. It's like physical therapy
and good, old-fashioned psycho-therapy for your vocal chords!” Visit
http://www.LizCaplan.com
for more information, but tell Liz you heard about her at Cast Party!

| "The
Party simply glows with New York nightlife ambiance. It feels like a
throwback to another era but it has this era's top-notch entertainers
dropping in to schmooze, sing, eat, and drink. Caruso
consistently provides a flow of exciting singers, and he's definitely
hip, cool and classy all by himself."
