Psst - after you've read all of the Cast Party scoop, be sure to spend
a moment with our fabulous sponsors!
September
8 , 2006
The
Labor Day Cast Party found Tedd Firth,
Steve Doyle and I laboring away with a bevy of talented
folks on the Birdland stage! We heard one of the best
pieces of special material ever by Kevin Ray, the cast
of Oedipus For Kids entertained and disturbed
us, Birdland Songbird Robin Lee warbled a swell standard,
Mark Aaron James kicked rock 'n roll tuchas,
Bob Dolphin was hilarious, Hilary Kole
made magic...you know...the usual! I was lucky enough to receive a mini-didgeridoo
(left, photo by Mark Rupp) from the always
funny Janis and Bill Corsair, and serenaded everyone
with the rudest sounds this side of a bus station restroom. Please click
on Cast
Party - a photoset on Flickr
to see more pix from the night...and many other nights at Cast Party!
Next week, after Jason Robert Brown's concert (see
below), stick around for a Very Special Cast Party
with Billy-Bob Stritch and Steve-Bob Doyle
on pianny and bass. We'll be celebrating Dallas pal Wendy Welch's
birthday with lots of Texas Talent. Yee haw! Sing something country.
Or not.
If you were wondering how I spent my time before inflicting Cast Party
on the general public, you can check out WISEGUYS!
If nothing else, you will marvel at the many interesting fashion choices
and coiffures (I think the sailor stripes and 80's
Robert Downey Jr. hair are particularly fabulous!-- ed).

| Last
week, I told you about the upcoming Jason Robert Brown
concert on 9/11, and you responded like crazy! The night is sold out,
and we can't wait to hear Jason, The Caucasian Rhythm Kings,
and special guests Alice Ripley and Kate McGarry.
What I didn't tell you about was the upcoming TUESDAY, September
12 performance of the spectacularly spiffy Todd Londagin
and His Big Band! Todd, his 17-pieces and vocalist Toby
Williams will be swinging Birdland with two shows at 9 and
11pm. If you haven't seen or heard Todd before, you have to come! He
grew up in a family jazz band playing trombone, singing and tapdancing
for tips on the streets of the world. A busker comes to Birdland! Through
all that, he became a pop vocalist with a jazz sensibility and deep
understanding of the essence of popular songwriting from the 30's through
the 50's. Todd's sound has matured thanks to his 15 years as co-founder
of the Flying Neutrinos, and 8 years as band leader
for the most prestigious event planners. Click on www.ToddLondagin.com
to see a great site about a fantastic entertainer! And call Birdland
now...212.581.3080 to make a reservation. If you come
to the 9pm show…we happily invite you to stick around for the
late show gratis! That's foreign for FREE!

THE
LASCIVIOUS BIDDIES at BIRDLAND Monday, September 18th, 7pm.
Time
Out New York hails their "Angelic vocal harmonies, wordy humor,
jazz chops & pop moxie" while The Washington Post
names them "Manhattan's hippest girl group." Blending
jazz, pop, and cabaret with four-part harmonies, the all-female quartet
has carried its fresh, genre-defying sound from coast to coast as they
make headlines for their energetic and tightly woven live show, full
of humor, expert musicianship, and a dash of sentimentality. This irrepressible
foursome is Saskia Lane on bass, Amanda Monaco
on guitar, Lee Ann Westover on lead vocals, and Deidre
Rodman on piano and melodica. Click for tickets & reservations:

ALTHOUGH
BILL WESTMORELAND MET SALLY MAYES in New York City, they quickly realized
they had common roots.
Sally's best high school friend in Texas was the daughter of Bill's
mother's best friend, who both shared a love of decoupage. (OK, maybe
that's too much information, but Bill and Sally hit it off right away!)
Their first collaboration was Sally's CD The Story Hour,
followed by Boys and Girls Like You and Me.
Bill photographed Sally's latest CD, Valentine,
draping her in red silk organza (pictured here, at right) to
complement her sexy, romantic renditions of all-time favorite standards.
Sally is currently off to South Africa to direct Tovah Feldshuh's
new concert, and is working with musical director Patrick Brady
on a new fall show. You can read more about Sally at
www.sallymayes.net. You can reach Bill at bwphotography@aol.com.

| WHAT
DO MICHAEL C. HALL,
KERRY BUTLER, CHEYENNE JACKSON, ESTELLE PARSONS, JULIA MURNEY, DEVEN
MAY, HUNTER FOSTER, MICHAEL ARDEN, JAMES BLUNT and the GOO GOO DOLLS
all have in common? Their
secret weapon -- voice teacher Liz Caplan! Her student ANA GASTEYER
(upcoming Threepenny Opera) says, “Studying with Liz has changed my
approach to singing on every level. In the two years we have worked
together, she has combined phenomenal technique with tailor-made specifications
to meet a huge variety of professional demands. Her tireless enthusiasm
and expertise have empowered me physiologically and emotionally to become
a better singer than I had ever imagined. It's like physical therapy
and good, old-fashioned psycho-therapy for your vocal chords!” Visit
http://www.LizCaplan.com
for more information, but tell Liz you heard about her at Cast Party!

| "The
Party simply glows with New York nightlife ambiance. It feels like a
throwback to another era but it has this era's top-notch entertainers
dropping in to schmooze, sing, eat, and drink. Caruso
consistently provides a flow of exciting singers, and he's definitely
hip, cool and classy all by himself."
