This past Monday, we had to drag chairs from the dressing room to accommodate all the walk-ins who showed up for Linda Lavin's concert! It seemed everyone in town wanted to cheer her on, including The Tale of the Allergist's Wife playwright Charles Busch (right, thanks to photog Aubrey Reuben), Celia Weston, who co-starred on “Alice” and David Shire, who wrote “There's A New Girl In Town,” the “Alice” theme song! The following Cast Party was as fun and musical and hilarious as it always is…with a few special surprises from Bob Stillman, Lina Koutrakos & Patrick DeGennaro, Michael Aurit, Brian Bauers, and Shauna Hicks. A big 'yay' to Matt Berman, Techie-To-The-Stars, for helping us for the night, while our very own Jody Dobson was out of town. By the way, have you checked out Jim Caruso's Cast Party lately? Yes, Virginia, there is a Labor Day Cast Party! Come celebrate with us and wear your summer whites for the last time. Tedd Firth and Steve Doyle will make up the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra, so you know you'll be in good hands! The fun starts at 9:30PM, and you can reserve a table at 212.581.3080 if you like. The terrific Birdland menu is available until 1AM, too, so you can picnic to your heart's content! I thought you might like the photo at right of me in seersucker, evidently doing the cha-cha, taken by Erich Bergen Avedon. Seersucker is my favorite color.

I'm dee-lighted to announce The Third Season at Birdland! Thanks to all of you, the series I present in association with TheaterMania.com has been a smashing success. So…here goes another! The season will include Jamie deRoy & Friends in Strings Attached (September 12), The Johnny Rodgers Band (September 19), Capathia Jenkins & Louis Rosen (September 26), Avenue Q Swings! (October 3), Randi Driscoll & Friends in A Night of Music Celebrating The Matthew Shepard Foundation (October 10), Amanda Green & Tom Kitt Play With Themselves (October 17), And Then I Wrote…The Songs of Steve Marzullo (October 24) and Christine Lavin in FolkZinger (October 31). The cover charge for each concert is $25 plus a $10 food/drink minimum. (The October 10 concert is a benefit, with $50 and $100 VIP tickets also available.)
