Natalie Douglas and Michael Feinstein schmooze at the Cast Party after her amazing Birdland show Psst - after you've read all of the Cast Party scoop, be sure to spend a moment with our fabulous sponsors!

August 25 , 2006

Oh Natalie! Ms. Douglas really outdid herself in her fourth Monday night concert at Birdland! The place was jammed with fans, including Michael Feinstein (left, photo by Mark Rupp), who led the final standing ovation. The band and backup singers all sounded sublime, with many thanks to musical director Mark Hartman, who came to town direct from his Pippin-conducting duties at Goodspeed Opera House. We're so proud that Natalie has made Birdland her home...and I'm so lucky that it's the home of the Broadway Concert Series and Cast Party. As the New York Times said, “Birdland is the ultimate music room in the city...maybe the world!” Speaking of...the following Cast Party was amazing. Tedd Firth and Steve Doyle, on piano and bass, were brilliant as always...accompanying singers they've never heard as if they'd been rehearsing for weeks! Impromptu performances by folks like Terri White, Michael Winther, Lodi Carr, Stephanie Clark and Jamie DeRoy made the evening fly by, as usual. Next week...join us when Billy Stritch and Mr. Doyle make up the Cast Party Symphony Orchestra. Do I even need to repeat the fact that you just never know who will drop in? Check out FLICKR if you don't believe me! We love our photos, you know!

Tony DeSare, in a photograph by Bill WestmorelandWHEN TELARC RECORDS CALLED BILL WESTMORELAND to photograph Tony DeSare for his upcoming CD, to be released in 2007, Bill jumped at the chance to photograph Tony in the recording studio. “It was probably the hottest day of the year, the big heat wave of ’06, but I persevered and took my equipment up to Avatar Studios on 53rd street. Of course, once I got inside Tony was as cool as a cucumber, as always, and not only did I get to photograph him at a beautiful Steinway grand piano but I also got to hear his incredible rendition of Prince’s “Kiss.” Just being a part of the actual recording is going to make the CD cover shoot and the accompanying music video even more exciting and creative.” You can see more about Tony DeSare at TonyDeSare.com.
