Liza Minnelli, Michael Feinstein and Jim Caruso sing Kay Thompson's, "I Love a Violin" with Billy Stritch at the Cast Party at Birdland Psst - after you've read all of the Cast Party scoop, be sure to spend a moment with our fabulous sponsors!

August 18 , 2006

Well it just doesn get much better than that! Everything was going smoothly at Monday's Cast Party, then Liza Minnelli stormed the stage! She sang “On Such A Night As This,” a song about the golden days of Hollywood, written for her by the late, great Marshall Barer. Then she persuaded our pal Michael Feinstein to join Billy Stritch and I on Kay Thompson's joyous “I Love A Violin.” You can see more wonderful pix taken by Mark Rupp on FLICKR! The extravaganza even garnered a quarter-page color photo of all of us in yesterday's Newsday! Yeah...we were fancy. Of course, Nancy Anderson's 7pm concert celebrating her brilliant CD, “Ten Cents A Dance,” was jam-packed with fancy Broadway superstars, like Raul Esparza, Jeffry Denman, Klea Blackhurst, Lance Horn and Donna Lynn Champlin. The gorgeous Nancy, Ross Patterson and The Little Big Band perfectly captured that 20's and 30's jazz vibe, and we can't wait for a return visit. It was the cat's meow!

Tony DeSare, in a photograph by Bill WestmorelandWHEN TELARC RECORDS CALLED BILL WESTMORELAND to photograph Tony DeSare for his upcoming CD, to be released in 2007, Bill jumped at the chance to photograph Tony in the recording studio. “It was probably the hottest day of the year, the big heat wave of ’06, but I persevered and took my equipment up to Avatar Studios on 53rd street. Of course, once I got inside Tony was as cool as a cucumber, as always, and not only did I get to photograph him at a beautiful Steinway grand piano but I also got to hear his incredible rendition of Prince’s “Kiss.” Just being a part of the actual recording is going to make the CD cover shoot and the accompanying music video even more exciting and creative.” You can see more about Tony DeSare at TonyDeSare.com.
