| Here
it is, the
Question of the Week! You may have been watching Jim's
video column on Theatermania.com, Jim
Caruso is...Prying!, wherein Jim asks various glitterati
personal questions. If you haven't seen it yet, catch up with the archive,
here!
Thanks to all who shared their moments of "glory" with us
last week...between exposed underwear, dancing tampons and singing to
dead birds, it was hard to pick a favorite!
It's time once again to ask
another prying question for you to answer in Jim's Guestbook,
here.
Answer this week and win a prize at the next Cast Party! So:
What's the most memorable live performance you've ever witnessed
and why?
Do tell -- here!

August
4 , 2006
It's
been scorching here in New York City, but that didn't stop some of the
most talented people on the planet from singing their hearts out at
Cast Party on Monday night! We were so happy to see Meredith
Patterson, who was so great as Peggy Sawyer
in 42nd Street on Broadway. She and Billy
(left, photo by Mark Rupp) reminisced about
their time in the show together, then sang “About A Quarter
To Three.” So cute. Our favorite folkie Christine
Lavin sang a hilarious song about her own demise. Everyone
discussed their most embarrassing moment onstage, with Jacqueline
Hester winning the grand prize (the Sweeney Todd
CD!). There were standards and show tunes and pop songs and tap dancing
and cellos and guitars and bad jokes. You know... Cast Party. And we'll
do it all again next Monday night, with Billy Stritch
and Steve Doyle toiling as the Cast Party Symphony
Orchestra.
You can click on New
York Cool and Playbill
to read all about the amazing time we had at Lucie's Birthday
Bash at Birdland a few weeks ago...and there are tons
of brand new photos on FLICKR!

| They're
ba-a-ack! Toxic Audio (left), the best acapella
goup on the planet, will be in concert at Birdland on Monday,
August 7th at 7pm. Thanks to their Off-Broadway
run, a Drama Desk Award, and a 2005 Artist
of the Year honor by the CARA Awards, Toxic
Audio has definitely made their mark on the New York scene.
Since they were on our stage last year, they've performed all over the
world, including a Japanese tour, a smash run in Las Vegas, at Shea
Stadium, and for Robert De Niro's Tribeca Film Festival.
The five vocalists in Toxic Audio use no instruments other than the
human voice to create complex sonic textures, rhythmic drumbeats, thumping
bass lines and searing guitar-like solos in their performance of contemporary
pop songs, timeless classics, jazz-scat and vocally-orchestrated original
compositions. You have to hear them to believe them... so call 212.581.3080
or click on www.instantseats.com/birdland
now to reserve! Coming soon to our Summer In The City
concert series: Broadway's Nancy Anderson (August 14),
diva Natalie Douglas (August 21) and the fabulous Marcy
& Zina Show (August 28)!
A big shout-out to the cast and creators of [title
of show], one of the most hilarious, touching pieces
of theater I've seen in eons. Jeff Bowen, Hunter
Bell, Heidi Blickenstaff, Susan Blackwell,
Larry Pressgrove and Michael Berresse
have put together a musical about putting together a musical. You have
to see it! Run. Now. Really. Go.

AMANDA
GREEN CALLED BILL WESTMORELAND TO PHOTOGRAPH HER CD, PUT
A LITTLE LOVE IN YOUR MOUTH. “I
was excited about photographing Amanda again since I had taken a beautiful
shot of her a few months earlier. (pictured here). Then in her true
“tongue-in-cheek” form she said, ‘Oh, and by the way
we need to photograph Brooks Ashmanskas, Mario
Cantone, Jonathan Dokuchitz, Jesse
Tyler Ferguson, Kim Lindsay, Jessica
Molaskey, Billy Stritch, and Mary
Testa.’ We had a blast even though scheduling the crew
in groups of three became a nightmare. We ended up putting Amanda in
the “group picture” 5 times in five different costumes...it
was quite hilarious!” You can see more about Amanda at Greenpiecemusic.com.

| WHAT
DO MICHAEL C. HALL,
KERRY BUTLER, CHEYENNE JACKSON, ESTELLE PARSONS, JULIA MURNEY, DEVEN
MAY, HUNTER FOSTER, MICHAEL ARDEN, JAMES BLUNT and the GOO GOO DOLLS
all have in common? Their
secret weapon -- voice teacher Liz Caplan! Her student ANA GASTEYER
(upcoming Threepenny Opera) says, “Studying with Liz has changed my
approach to singing on every level. In the two years we have worked
together, she has combined phenomenal technique with tailor-made specifications
to meet a huge variety of professional demands. Her tireless enthusiasm
and expertise have empowered me physiologically and emotionally to become
a better singer than I had ever imagined. It's like physical therapy
and good, old-fashioned psycho-therapy for your vocal chords!” Visit
http://www.LizCaplan.com
for more information, but tell Liz you heard about her at Cast Party!

| "The
Party simply glows with New York nightlife ambiance. It feels like a
throwback to another era but it has this era's top-notch entertainers
dropping in to schmooze, sing, eat, and drink. Caruso
consistently provides a flow of exciting singers, and he's definitely
hip, cool and classy all by himself."
