Last week...

Hilary Kole (headshot by Bill Westmoreland)

July 29, 2005

We sure missed having Cast Party this last week…but are completely hyped for a great evening this coming Monday. Billy Stritch and Steve Doyle will make up the renowned Symphony Orchestra, so come sing, be seen, eat and schmooze with us at Birdland around 9:30pm! Let me also hawk our gorgeous and swingin' pal, Hilary Kole (right in a photo by Mr. Bill Westmoreland), who will be in concert at Irridium (1650 Broadway) for three nights in a row starting tonight (Friday). Hil willl be performing with a band led by the great Lee Musiker in shows at 8 and 10. Click here to get all the details, and let's all support one of our all-time fave chick singers!

Coming up...

Monday OffCome in out of the Humidity Festival this August and see some wonderful concerts at Birdland! First up, the amazing Monday OFF (right) will be harmonizing on Monday the 15th. Raymond Sage, Hilary Gardner, Amy Cervini and Richard Roland make up the group that New York Pops Musical Director Skitch Henderson dubbed, “a technical delight and a visual pleasure.” They've also been called, “a wonderful vocal group” by NPR's Hank O'Neal, and a “jaunty, jivin' quartet” in Entertainment Today. On Monday, August 22, Sally Mayes will be celebrating her new CD, “Valentine,” with a show at 7pm. Sally, is currently standing by for Delta Burke and Christine Ebersole in Steel Magnolias, and is known for her Broadway and Off-Broadway performances, including She Loves Me (Tony nomination), Welcome To The Club, Closer Than Ever, Das Barbeque, Pete N' Keely, and Urban Cowboy. She won raves for her performance as Mae West in the National tour of Dirty Blonde, and her nightclub and concert career has resulted in four solo albums. Sally will be joined by Johnny Rodgers at the piano. Then, on Monday, August 29, Linda Lavin will make her Birdland debut with “The Song Remembers When,” with Billy Stritch at the keys. It's a brand new show that gives audiences a chance to see Linda up-close and personal as she recalls her roots in the theater (originating Sondheim's “The Boy From…” in The Mad Show) and her early cabaret trials and tribulations in some less-than-glamorous boites. Many thanks to TheaterMania.com for co-presenting this concert series with me. I couldn't do it without them!
