Christine Ebersole with Doug Wright and Scott Frankel, Grey Gardens : A New Musical librettist/composer

July 22, 2005

First of all, don't even think about coming to Cast Party this coming Monday, July 25! Birdland is hosting a private affair that night, and we're not invited! They've been so marvelous to us this past year so we don't even mind! We love the Land of Bird! Happily, the Party will return the following Monday, August 1 and we want to see you there!

We sure saw lots of you this past week! The Christine Ebersole/Billy Stritch concert was teeming with talented show-folk like Doug Wright and Scott Frankel (right, with Christine, thanks to Aubrey Reuben). They are the librettist and composer of Grey Gardens: A New Musical, which will be at Playrights Horizon starring Christine and Mary Louise Wilson next season. The following jam-packed Cast Party celebrated Jill Switzer's new book “The Diva Next Door,” which brought out tons of fans all the way from Palm Beach, including Rob Russell, the manager/divo-in-his-own-right at The Royal Room in The Colony Hotel (with Jill's daughter Lindsay, below). The Gal-With-A-Million-Voices, Louise DuArt, gave us a taste of why she is killing 'em on the road in concert with Harvey Korman and Tim Conway. Barbara Walters, Joan Rivers, Kate Hepburn, Marge Simpson…she did 'em all and we were screaming. The Fabulous Pink Flamingos made their Cast Party debut and we can't wait to see them again. Sisters Ruby and Ava Lockner (ages 6 and 4) sang, and Bob Dolfin (age 80) tapped his way across the indoor/outdoor. Dare I say that it was one of the most diverse nights ever! Check out the nice review The Sensational Siegels gave us in their column, Two Of Clubs!

Coming up...

Jill Switzer, daughter Lindsay, and Rob RussellSince you won't be coming to Birdland this Monday, why don't you schlep to East Hampton on Saturday night (tomorrow!) and see Cast Party On The Road?! A swell group of artistes, (Karen Mason, Hilary Kole, Jonny Peterson, and Johnny Rodgers) will join me at the John Drew Theater of Guild Hall to show Hamptonites how we get it done! Rumor has it that the extraordinary writing/performing duo Amanda Green and Tom Kitt will be in the audience. Will they join us onstage to preview some fresh ditties? Join us and find out! There's a special ticket offer, too! In order to participate, you must call the box office directly at 631.324.4050 and say you "saw the promotion in Dan's Paper" and would like to participate in the two for one offer. Yeah…that's half-price by my calculations!

I'm so happy to tell you that the August Broadway Concerts at Birdland include Monday Off - The Vocal Group (August 15), Sally Mayes (August 22) and Linda Lavin (August 29)! More details to come, but much gratitude to TheaterMania.com for co-presenting these amazing shows with me! Make your reservations now! And wait till you hear about our Fall/Winter Season! We'll be announcing the particulars in the next few weeks.
