Last week...

Jim Caruso and Adam Guettel

July 15, 2005

It was so great to get back into the swing of things on Monday! I flew back to town, joined the Humidity Festival and schlepped myself to Birdland just in time for Cast Party! There were some memorable moments, as usual, like Grammy Award-winning composer Victoria Shaw singing a brand new song, then introducing her two unbelievably adorable little girls, Ruby and Ava, who serenaded us all. Double Tony-winner Adam Guettel (with me at right) just came to hang out, but ended up playing bass with maestro Tedd Firth on “All Blues.” It was kind of magical. There were lots of newcomers and lots of beloved regulars…as always!

Coming up...

Johnny Rodgers, Hilary Kole, Karen Mason and Jonny PetersonI'm so thrilled that Christine Ebersole and Billy Stritch, (below) are returning to Birdland this next Monday, July 18th. The concert starts at 7pm…you might want to call the club now for reservations (212.581.3080) because they always pack the place with amazing people! Last time, Mr. Sondheim was in attendance! I hear Christine's Steel Magnolias cast might show up, too, so it should be a starry night. Along with songs from her new CD, Christine will be giving us a sneak preview of songs from her new project, Grey Gardens: A New Musical, which will be onstage at Playrights Horizons next season.

As I've mentioned, I'm so excited that Cast Party is going on the road! Saturday, July 23rd is the night that I'll be hosting, along with Johnny Rodgers, a fun, casual evening at the John Drew Theatre in East Hampton. What a Cast this Party is boasting! My brilliant pals Karen Mason, Hilary Kole and Jonny Peterson (all pictured above) will be joining in on the musical fun, so if you are in the Hamptons, or know people who would love the Party, please call TheaterMania for tickets (866.811.4111) or check out www.GuildHall.org.

As if the star-studded cast were not enough - here's a little more incentive: a two-for-one promotion! In order to participate, you must only call the box office directly at 631.324.4050 and say you "saw the promotion in Dan's Paper" and would like to participate in the two for one offer.

This coming Monday's Cast Party should be a blast! We'll be celebrating my pal Jill Switzer's wonderful new book, The Diva Next Door: How To Be a Singing Star Wherever You Are! She's an amazing performer, and I can't wait for you to hear her sing...along with her brilliant musical director/hubby, Rich! I'm also hyped to meet and hear Mr. Buddy Greco, who I've been a fan of for years! You just never know who will show up!

About Jim Caruso's Cast Party...

Look at all the fabulous people!
"The Party simply glows with New York nightlife ambiance. It feels like a throwback to another era but it has this era's top-notch entertainers dropping in to schmooze, sing, eat, and drink. Caruso consistently provides a flow of exciting singers, and he's definitely hip, cool and classy all by himself."
