Psst - after you've read all of the Cast Party scoop, be sure to spend
a moment with our fabulous sponsors!
July

Howdy
all you cowpokes and cowpoketresses! This past Monday's Under
The Covers with Victoria Shaw, Lari White and
Chuck Cannon was a country/pop music lover's dream! These three
brilliant composer/performers showed a packed Birdland just why they
have shelves full of Grammys, Emmys,
Songs of the Year, and Number One Records.
They all stuck around after the show for Cast Party,
where Lari sang with our own Steve Doyle (see photo
by Mark Rupp, left), and Victoria played for
her two gorgeous and talented daughters, Ruby and Ava.
Grey Gardens' Bob Stillman
sang two originals, Kim Key and Tabitha Fair
wailed some Aretha, Eve Silber and
Todd Londagin duetted on guitar and trombone, Jill
Anderson was a ukelele lady, and newcomer Nice Peter
ended the evening with the dirtiest, foulest, funniest tune
we've ever heard! No lie, Cast Party is THE most eclectic hodgepodge
of fantastic entertainment on the scene, but you probably knew that.
The audience was filled with swells, too, like the really, really funny
Judy Gold, the really, really talented Jarrod
Emick and Entertainment Weekly's
fave chanteuse, Maude Maggart.

| This
Monday, July 17th, the absolutely spectacular Lucie Arnaz
(left) is spending her night off from starring in Dirty
Rotten Scoundrels on Broadway...with US! It also happens
to be her birthday, and I'm so thrilled we'll be helping her
celebrate with a surprise-guest-star-filled show. She and her musical
director, Ron Able, have put together a show that will
include beloved standards, some new tunes, original material, and a
few Latin songs close to Lucie's heart! The 7pm show has been sold out
for about a week, but I suggest coming to the club early (around 5pm)
to snag a seat at the bar. Following Ms. A. will be Cast Party,
starring Billy Stritch and Steve Doyle
as The Cast Party Symphony Orchestra.
Our Cast Party jazzbird, Hilary Kole,
has been kicking jazz tuchas all over the globe lately, and
I'm thrilled to tell you that she's performing a whole week at Birdland!
And do I have a deal for you, gentle Cast Party Newsletter Reader! If
you go see her show, “The Haunted Heart”
on July 18, 19 or 20 and mention this offer, Birdland
will waive your music charge! That's right. No cover.
Hilary has shows at 9pm and 11pm, and I can't wait to hear her with
the all-star band led by the extraordinary Alan Broadbent
at the piano. Let's all meet there and cheer for one of the best singers
in town! Go Hil!

| WHEN
BILL WESTMORELAND PHOTOGRAPHED JULIE HALSTON for the first time,
in 2000, it completely changed his approach to portrait photography.
“It was amazing watching Julie “perform” for the camera…there
were times when I had to stop and just watch her and, when I did, I’m
sure that I missed some great shots. I asked her to do a series of “funny
faces” and she gave me a million…you can see one of them
here.” (at left) “ Julie is really a beautiful woman…she
has that aristocratic presence about her, yet she can turn the most
mundane moment into a bizarre spectacle…just have her read your
wedding announcement…or better yet, her own obituary! You can
catch her this fall on CBS in “The Class”. You can reach
Bill Westmoreland at bwphotography@aol.com.

WHAT
DO MICHAEL C. HALL,
KERRY BUTLER, CHEYENNE JACKSON, ESTELLE PARSONS, JULIA MURNEY, DEVEN
MAY, HUNTER FOSTER, MICHAEL ARDEN, JAMES BLUNT and the GOO GOO DOLLS
all have in common? Their
secret weapon -- voice teacher Liz Caplan! Her student ANA GASTEYER
(upcoming Threepenny Opera) says, “Studying with Liz has changed my
approach to singing on every level. In the two years we have worked
together, she has combined phenomenal technique with tailor-made specifications
to meet a huge variety of professional demands. Her tireless enthusiasm
and expertise have empowered me physiologically and emotionally to become
a better singer than I had ever imagined. It's like physical therapy
and good, old-fashioned psycho-therapy for your vocal chords!” Visit
http://www.LizCaplan.com
for more information, but tell Liz you heard about her at Cast Party!

| "The
Party simply glows with New York nightlife ambiance. It feels like a
throwback to another era but it has this era's top-notch entertainers
dropping in to schmooze, sing, eat, and drink. Caruso
consistently provides a flow of exciting singers, and he's definitely
hip, cool and classy all by himself."
