What
a thrill to have Christine Andreas (at right
with me!) on our stage this past Monday night! She and her musical director,
Martin Silvestri, brought the most elegant hour-and-a-half
of sublime listening pleasure to Birdland
for The New Season. The crowd was almost reverential
in their appreciation of the show, and we are truly looking forward to
having her back.and soon! It's easy to see why she was SRO for 3 nights
in the Jazz at Kennedy Center series. The following
Cast Party was huge.and hilarious. I'm constantly amazed
at the never-ending parade of really talented performers schlepping through
the door, to say nothing of the glamorous fashions (see below,
on our very own David Raleigh). Mark Berman
and Steve Doyle outdid themselves accompanying the singers
on piano and bass. How lucky are we to have them?
This
coming Monday, June 13th, Malcolm
Gets (below) will perform in concert as a benefit
for The Songbook
Project! Maybe you just saw him playing opposite Kristin
Chenoweth in The Apple Tree at Encores!
Maybe you saw him starring in Amour on Broadway.
He also just starred as Og in that hugely successful
production of Finian's Rainbow at The
Irish Repertory Theater. But of course you know him from TV's
"Caroline in the City!" Malcolm is one of my all-time
favorite guys on the cabaret stage.and when he slides over to play piano,
you will faint! He's amazing! (Remember when he played for Cher
on the Rosie Show? I certainly do.) It's going to be
a very special concert with material by writers as diverse as Rodgers
& Hammerstein, Kenny Loggins and Mary
Chapin Carpenter. Call Birdland now for reservations
