Jim and Toxic Audio perform, "If I Only Had a Brain"

June 3, 2005

Toxic Audio, that genius a cappella group, outdid themselves last Monday night! First of all, the room was overflowing with oodles of fans and friends. Then, the show was absolutely thrilling, with lots of new material and a brand-new arrangement of...what else? "Birdland!" I think they've found a home...we can't wait to have them back! Just for that one night, the great Birdland bar staff created a delicious, yet potent, libation called "The Toxic Waste," and boy, were they popular! It was a great way to kick off the summer season. Broadway super-director/choreographer Jeff Calhoun came for the concert and stayed into the wee hours of Cast Party...and it was a great one! Billy Stritch, Steve Doyle and I even got to perform "If I Only Had A Brain" with the Toxins...a real treat! (above, thanks, Jen!)

Coming up...

Christine AndreasThis Monday at 7pm, TheaterMania and I are thrilled to bring Christine Andreas (right) to the stage at Birdland. She's just returned from 6 sold-out performances as part of the jazz series at the Kennedy Center, a sold-out performance at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and a concert of Harold Arlen with the Boston Philharmonic. The show at Birdland will include standards such as "Fly Me To The Moon," "Here's That Rainy Day," "They Say It's Wonderful," Peter Allen's "Love Don't Need A Reason," "Storybook," from Scarlet Pimpernel, as well as several original tunes. Call Birdland now for reservations: 212.581.3080. It's going to be a beautiful night! Then stick around for Cast Party, with Mark Berman and Steve Doyle on piano and bass. It's going to be "Kate Botello Night," because our adorable Judy-impersonating, website-designing diva/geeque has decided to move to the Heartland of America! We will miss the hell out of her...but know she will be paying us visits often! So join us as Cast Party...you never know WHO will show up! We hope it's YOU!

The following Monday, June 13, Malcolm Gets (below) will be in concert at 7pm! As you probably already know, Malcolm just starred opposite Kristin Chenoweth in the Encores! production of The Apple Tree, and starred in the Broadway musical Amour. He is perhaps best known for his work on the television series "Caroline in the City." This performance will benefit The Songbook Project, on whose Advisory Board Malcolm sits. Tickets are going fast, so call 212.581.3080 to get a table!
