Jeff Daniels live at Birdland!

April 22, 2005

It was another hysterical/historical scene at Cast Party on Monday! If you were there, you probably spied Liza Minnelli, Michael Feinstein, Scott Porter (Altar Boyz), Jim J. Bullock (Hairspray), Max von Essen (The Baker’s Wife), composer Larry O’Keefe (Bat Boy), Marilyn Maye (who holds the record for singing on "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson"…78 times!), designer Bob Mackie, columnist Rex Reed, composer Ervin Drake ("Good Morning Heartache"), movie dude Jeff Daniels, folk diva Christine Lavin, former Miss Texas Phyllis Doyle, Lumiri Tubo (below, in a photo by David Goldman), David Larsen (Good Vibrations) and cast members from the upcoming Full Monty at the Gallery Players Theatre in Brooklyn! They were all on hand to celebrate the 100th Cast Party, sing, eat, and/or schmooze with piano-wiz Billy Stritch, bass-guy Wayne Batchelor and me! See fun fotos of the bash on BroadwayWorld.com, with many thanks to photog David Goldman. Tuesday’s Jeff Daniels concerts (above, photo by Joe Marzullo) were absolutely great. His material is clever, wry, touching…everything we love! He’s off to do another movie…but I can’t wait for his Birdland return.

Coming up...

Lumiri Tubo (with Billy Stritch at the piano). Photo by David GoldmanSongwriter Larry O’Keefe is bringing Larry’s Rites of Spring to the stage at Birdland this Monday night at 7pm. The composer of Bat Boy: The Musical is well-known for bringing extravaganzas comprised of absolutely brilliant talent especially for you, the viewing public. This show will be no different! On hand to sing his screamingly funny material will be Jill Abramovitz (Suddenly Hope), Kerry Butler (Little Shop of Horrors, Hairspray, Bat Boy), Joe Cassidy (Les Miserables), Sara Chase (Unauthorized Biography of Samantha Brown), Julie Garnye (Hair concert), Deven May (Bat Boy, NYC and UK), Kevin Pariseau (I Love You, You're Perfect…), Mo Rocca ("The Daily Show"), and Emma Williams (Bat Boy UK and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang UK). Call Birdland now for reservations…tickets are truly going fast! 212.581.3080. The following Cast Party will include a bevy of special guests. We’ll see the return of those fabulous British gals, Fascinating Aida, who are currently running Off-Broadway at the Kirk Theatre on Theater Row. Richard Glazier will be in to preview his Friday night Carnegie Hall tribute to Gershwin and Arlen. Trent and Trudy Lee, kind of a ‘Steve-And-Eydie-On-Crack’ will show you why their show, A Touch of Vegas, is a huge hit at the Dominion Theater. Of course lots of other beloved regulars and a few newcomers will be there to surprise and delight you. Tedd Firth will be at the piano, and Wayne Batchelor will be on bass. We can’t wait to see you!
