Psst - after you've
read all of the Cast Party scoop, be sure to spend a moment with our fabulous
sponsors at the end of the page!
March
31, 2006
Hope
you all found something exciting to do on your night off from Cast Party.
We don't foresee any more dark nights, so you better be well rested and
ready for much more Monday music, madness and mayhem!
This coming Monday, April 3, I'm trilled and delighted
that Christine Pedi
(pictured right) will be performing Great Dames,
at 7pm! I know she's planning on conjuring up the dames,
dolls, divas, broads, babes and bombshells of the stage and screen just
for us. Stage divas Ethel Merman, Carol Channing,
Liza Minnelli and Bernadette Peters
will all be channeled thru this musical comedy extravaganza, and big and
small screen queens will also be well-represented by Bette Davis,
Joan Rivers and Edith Bunker in a recitation
of the American Film Institute's Top 100 Movie Quotes. In her "real"
voice, Christine will perform a few theatre gems closely associated with
some of these legendary ladies. There will be a $25 cover and $10 food/drink
minimum. I promise you'll have a BALL! Stick around for the return of
Cast Party, with Billy Stritch and Steve
Doyle making up the Symphony Orchestra!
On
the following night, Tuesday, April 4, the esteemed Jason
Robert Brown will be on our stage, with his band, The
Caucasian Rhythm Kings, the smashing Jenn Colella,
and some special surprise guests! You know Jason has been hailed as, “one
of Broadway's smartest and most sophisticated songwriters since Stephen
Sondheim” (Philadelphia Inquirer),
and his “extraordinary, jubilant theater music”
(Chicago Tribune) has been heard all over the
world, whether in one of his musicals or in his own incendiary live performances.
The New York Times refers to Jason as “a
leading member of a new generation of composers who embody high hopes
for the American musical.” Jason is the composer and lyricist
of the musical, The Last Five Years, which was
cited as one of Time Magazine's 10 Best
of 2001 and won Drama Desk Awards for Best Music
and Best Lyrics. Jason won a 1999 Tony Award for his
score to Parade, a musical written with Alfred
Uhry and directed by Harold Prince, which premiered
at Lincoln Center Theatre in December 1998, and subsequently won both
the Drama Desk and New York Drama Critics' Circle
Awards for Best New Musical. It's going to be another crazy sellout
at Birdland,
so you better call now for reservations! 212-581-3080!
$35 cover plus $10 food/drink minimum!
Next up -- Billy Stritch Sings The Mel Torme Songbook
on Monday, April 10 at 7pm! Details to come!

Wait till you see it!
The restored, remastered, remarkable Liza
With A “Z” is coming to a television near you,
premiering April 1 on Showtime! On
a late spring night in 1972, our friend took over New York's Lyceum
Theater for what would be the performance of a lifetime. Alone on stage,
guided by the masterful showmanship of the legendary Bob Fosse
and eight movie cameras, Liza's tour-de-force performance became one
of the most celebrated TV specials of a generation. She's back with
me on Cast Party - The Radio Show, to discuss the release,
the memories, and where all that star quality comes from!
Tune in every Tuesday and Friday night
at 8pm exclusively on BroadwayWorld.com!
We're a podcast,
now, too! Go to The Radio Show
for all the info!
In the words of Liza herself, "Cast Party IS
New York!"
Cast Party Radio Show is produced by Brian
Wilson at SoHa
Media.

"The Party simply glows
with New York nightlife ambiance. It feels like a throwback to another
era but it has this era's top-notch entertainers dropping in to schmooze,
sing, eat, and drink. Caruso consistently provides a
flow of exciting singers, and he's definitely hip, cool and classy all
by himself."

What
do MICHAEL C. HALL, KERRY BUTLER, CHEYENNE JACKSON, ESTELLE PARSONS,
JULIA MURNEY, DEVEN MAY, HUNTER FOSTER, MICHAEL ARDEN, JAMES BLUNT and
the GOO GOO DOLLS all have in common? Their
secret weapon -- voice teacher Liz Caplan! Her student ANA GASTEYER (upcoming
Threepenny Opera) says, “Studying with Liz has changed my approach to
singing on every level. In the two years we have worked together, she
has combined phenomenal technique with tailor-made specifications to meet
a huge variety of professional demands. Her tireless enthusiasm and expertise
have empowered me physiologically and emotionally to become a better singer
than I had ever imagined. It's like physical therapy and good, old-fashioned
psycho-therapy for your vocal chords!” Visit www.LizCaplan.com
for more information, but tell Liz you heard about her at Cast Party!
