Last week...

Let's hear it for Deniece Williams!

March 18, 2005

Last week’s Cast Party was another one for the books! One of my favorite pop divas, Deniece Williams (right, photo by David Goldman), who once asked the musical question, "Let’s Hear It For The Boy," sang for us! Her version of "God Bless The Child" was absolutely shattering, and all fingers are crossed that she’ll make Birdland her musical home away from home! Some of the brilliant stars from Black 2 Broadway stuck around to sing after their show, including Kevin Anthony, JD Webster and LaTanya Hall. We also got to hear cabaret dudes Fred Barton and Jonathan Frank, Glen Allen & Jason Grant Smith singing Sam Davis compositions, Sarah Mather and Cara Lagreen (two American Idol alumni!), Eric Hoffman and his trombone, and David Goldman and his guitar. The joint was jumpin’ all night long!

Coming up...

Kevin Anthony smooches Natalie Douglas (or is it the other way around?)This coming Monday at 7pm, the one and only Natalie Douglas (right, smooching Kevin Anthony) returns home to Birdland, reprising her gorgeous tribute to Nina Simone. Joining Natalie will be Mark Hartman at the piano, Jimmy Cozier on tenor sax, Mike Croiter on drums and Mike Blanco on bass. If you haven’t seen this amazing melding of singer and material, I really urge you to call the club at 212.581.3080 now! Then, stick around for Cast Party. This week, Mark Berman and Billy Stritch will both be at the piano, and Steve Doyle will be on bass…all by himself! By the way, if you enjoy the magic that is me, I'll be in concert at The Tilles Center at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on Friday, March 18th at 8 and 10pm. Come see me! It's a great theater and we'll have us some fun!

And on BroadwayWorld.com...

Liza Minnelli and Jim CarusoThis week, we’re replaying the Liza interview, since it got such great response from all of you! She and I (right, having fun, but not recently) had such a ball talking and coming up with interesting music to play on the show…and the celebrity birthday messages were so fun to surprise her with! (Remind me to tell you about the day Carol Burnett called me at home. I’m still not over it.)

Listen in on Tuesday and Friday night at 8pm only on www.BroadwayWorld.com.

About Jim Caruso's Cast Party...

Look at all the fabulous people!
"The Party simply glows with New York nightlife ambiance. It feels like a throwback to another era but it has this era's top-notch entertainers dropping in to schmooze, sing, eat, and drink. Caruso consistently provides a flow of exciting singers, and he's definitely hip, cool and classy all by himself."
