Last week...

Ann Harada, Leah Hocking and Liz McCartney, backstage at Birdland

January 20, 2006

Could it be crummier weather here in New York City? I mean, please. At least it could snow or something more attractive. I'm calling Sam Champion immediately. The inclement conditions couldn't keep a lot of really talented Cast Party-ers from showing up to their favorite Monday night haunt last week, though. The Cast Party Symphony Orchestra was made up of Steve Doyle on bass and newcomer David Budway at the keys (avec moi, above). Mr. Budway certainly fit right in, with his amazing pianistic talents, swinging singing, and hilarious musical comments. Manhattan dapper-dan John Wallowich was brilliant as always, Suede visited all the way from Cape Cod, Natalie Joy Johnson gave us a preview of her Joe's Pub concert, and lots of regulars showed their stuff, musically-speaking. All in all, just another fantastic night!

Coming up...

Darius de HaasWe're so excited that Darius de Haas (pictured right), whom The New York Times called "an astonishing vocal acrobat,” will make his Birdland concert debut on Monday, January 30 at 7pm. He'll be performing a combination of material from his highly acclaimed Stevie Wonder and Billy Strayhorn-themed Lincoln Center concerts, along with a few new originals. You probably know Darius from his Broadway performances in Rent, Carousel, Marie Christine, Kiss of the Spider Woman and The Gershwin's Fascinating Rhythm. He won the Obie Award for his performance in The Running Man, and has been a soloist in concerts at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, London's Royal Festival Hall and LA's Disney Concert Hall. Most recently, he has been singing on the road with Vanessa Williams…and although we can't say who (hint, hint), expect a very special guest star joining Darius at Birdland! You better call 212.581.3080 to make a reservation now!

Also…we'll be announcing our Spring Season next week! Wait till you hear who we have coming to sing their hearts out just for YOU!
