Jim Caruso, center, with a star-studded APAP group!

January 14, 2005

I was in great company on Monday afternoon when I performed a showcase at the
APAP Convention for R/J Productions. Also hawking their wares in the R/J segment were (see photo, right) Todd Schroeder, Maureen McGovern, Karen Mason, Karen Saunders, Sam Harris, Linda Lavin and Billy Stritch. We’re all hoping to get tons of glamorous concert work from the appearance! Because of the convention, Birdland was packed with out-of-towner-type performers and producers, which made it an extremely fun Cast Party! Of course, there were some regulars, too, like The Chalks (see photo below: modeling the latest in fine Cast Party apparel), Julie Budd, Michael Garin, Lumiri Tubo, Cecily Daniels, Joan Crowe, Christine Lavin, Maude Maggart, Todd Schroeder, and pianist Danny Wright. The night went way longer than usual, with The Cast Party Symphony Orchestra (Billy Stritch and Steve Doyle!) really earning their dough. The music was extraordinary!

These two gals haven't been to Cast Party yet, but we're hoping against hope that they'll show up soon.

Coming up...

The Chalks
Don’t forget to make your reservations for Amanda Green & Tom Kitt & Friends, in concert at Birdland on Monday January 24th and 31st at 7pm. "& Friends" happens to include some of the hottest Broadway and music folks, like Brooks Ashmanskas, Mario Cantone, Jenn Colella, Jerry Dixon, Matt McGrath, Julia Murney, Greg Naughton, Alice Ripley & Amy Spanger. Tickets are $20 and there’s a $10 food/drink minimum. Come for dinner and see the show! Call 212.581.3080 now! Also, it’s time for the second annual Nightlife Awards! We were honored with one last year…so now it’s time to relinquish our crown! I’ll be performing, along with hacks like Bruce Vilanch, Maureen McGovern, Joy Behar, Sutton Foster, Julie Halston, and so many more! The awards are chosen by the New York press, and the show contains NO ACCEPTANCE SPEECHES! It’s pure entertainment by some amazing talent, and you have to go! That’s Monday, January 31st. So you can see Amanda & Tom on the 24th, go to the Nightlife Awards on the 31st at 7pm, then rush to Cast Party at 10pm. See how I make your life easy?

And on BroadwayWorld.com...

Judy Kaye as Florence Foster Jenkins at the York TheatreLast week’s Cast Party – The Radio Show had some slight technical issues. Like…it didn’t air. So we’re repeating it this Tuesday and Friday. It’s also clickable on the home page at any time. After seeing the magnificent Judy Kaye as Florence Foster Jenkins in Souvenir at The York Theatre, I thought it was time to celebrate some unsung, and unsingable, song stylists. In my
one-on-one conversation with Judy, you’ll hear about the excruciatingly wonderful Ms. Jenkins, her mystique, and just what to say backstage after an awful performance. You’ll also be privy to several cuts from the Jenkins ouevre, along with some music from Wing, the magical Mrs. Miller and Jonathan & Darlene Edwards. This is a Cast Party you will love, but your neighbors might not…so keep the volume low!

About Jim Caruso's Cast Party...

Look at all the fabulous people!
"The Party simply glows with New York nightlife ambiance. It feels like a throwback to another era but it has this era's top-notch entertainers dropping in to schmooze, sing, eat, and drink. Caruso consistently provides a flow of exciting singers, and he's definitely hip, cool and classy all by himself."
