night's performance by Broadway belters Ann Harada, Leah
Hocking and Liz McCartney (pictured backstage,
right) had Birdland
jammed with fans, friends and co-workers, including Avenue
Q's Barrett Foa, Jennifer Barnhart,
Christian Anderson, Stephanie D'Abruzzo,
Hairspray's Andrew Rannells,
Joe Abraham, Bryan West, Ragtime
composer Stephen Flaherty, and Disney's
Tom Moynahan. We even spied the hardest-working-man-in-showbusiness,
arranger/conductor Stephen Oremus! The following Cast
Party was, as always, fun, packed, hilarious and musically diverse!
We're so excited that Darius
de Haas (pictured right), whom The New York
Times called "an astonishing vocal acrobat,”
will make his Birdland concert debut on Monday, January 30
at 7pm. He'll be performing a combination of material
from his highly acclaimed Stevie Wonder and Billy
Strayhorn-themed Lincoln Center concerts, along
with a few new originals. You probably know Darius from his Broadway performances
in Rent, Carousel,
Marie Christine, Kiss of the Spider
Woman and The Gershwin's Fascinating
Rhythm. He won the Obie Award for his performance
in The Running Man, and has been a soloist in
concerts at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center,
London's Royal Festival Hall and LA's Disney
Concert Hall. Most recently, he has been singing on the road
with Vanessa
Williams…and although we can't say who
(hint, hint), expect a
very special guest star joining Darius at Birdland!

This coming Monday, January 16th, our Cast Party
Symphony Orchestra will be led by pianist/composer/singer David
Budway for the first time! You might have heard him accompanying
Broadway diva Christiane Noll, or with jazzers Stanley
Turrentine, Jeff 'Tain' Watts and Regina
Carter. He was recently the proud recipient of two prizes in
the John Lennon Songwriting Competition…so I'm sure we'll
be able to coax him into giving us a sampling of his work! Happily, our
favorite bass-man, Steve Doyle, will be on hand to show
David the Cast Party ropes, and we'd love YOU to show up to welcome him
to the family! Of course, Cast Party takes place every Monday night at
Birdland, starting around 9:30/10pm, with the following exception:
HEY! This coming Monday (that's January 16th), Cast Party will
be starting EARLY, as in, 9:00ish. Perfect for those of you who
have, like, something to DO on Tuesday morning.
